After a much more bearable start to summer in terms of temperatures, Spain has been going through an extreme heat wave for a few days. Thermometers exceed 40 degrees in various parts of the peninsula, especially in the southern half.
This episode has motivated the State Meteorological Agency to launch a notice in the latest update on the weather forecast in our country. Despite the fact that today, Wednesday July 12, the temperature will drop in various areas of the country, AEMET affirms that the southeast of the peninsula will continue to rise until it reaches 44 degrees.
This dangerous rise means that we continue "with a very adverse situation" that forces red warnings to be activated in different areas of the peninsula, as is the case in the Murcia region today.
Regarding the minimum temperatures, they will continue to be quite high, causing the Spanish to have to face the sweltering tropical nights. This phenomenon causes the night temperature to exceed 20 degrees in a large part of the country, reaching 25 degrees in the southeast half and in the Balearic Islands.
As for Thursday, July 13, AEMET affirms that there will be some cooling in the southern half of the country and in the Balearic Islands, so this overwhelming heat wave will end. Unfortunately, the Canaries will have to face the most critical day on Thursday, so AEMET has decided to activate red notices in the Canary Islands due to the intrusion of haze.
Meteorologists anticipate that, after this thermal drop, which will be gradual until Friday or Saturday, temperatures will rise again through a ridge that could advance over the east of the peninsula and the Balearic Islands.
