AEMET predicts a stormy Sunday with the arrival of Storm Bernard

The calm before the storm is palpable in the atmosphere. After the passage of Storm Aline, which left heavy rains especially in Madrid, the Peninsula is preparing for the arrival of Bernard. This new storm has been announced by the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) and is expected to be present on Sunday, October 22, crossing the national territory from south to north. Unlike its predecessor, Bernard will enter from the south, specifically through the Gulf of Cádiz, and its rains are expected to cover all of Spain, from its entry point to the easternmost area.

Although on Saturday the 21st there was a lull in these adverse conditions, Bernard will return with force this Sunday and Monday the 23rd, bringing with it humid west winds of between 90 and 100 kilometers per hour, along with occasional showers and storms.

In this way, the already suffered Aline and Bernard are only the first names in a series of storms that, according to the AEMET, will affect the peninsula in the coming months. It is expected that the next four months, between November and February, rainfall will be 50% more abundant than usual.

Bernard's impact will be notable. Strong gusts of wind are expected in areas of the southwest of the peninsula, the Pyrenees and the center of the country. In addition, the rains will be strong and persistent, especially in the southwest and in the Central system. On Monday, when Bernard crosses the interior of the peninsula, widespread rain and occasional storms are expected, being more abundant and frequent in the western half of the peninsula and the Pyrenees. That day, Castilla y León will be at orange level due to winds of more than 100 km/h, and in ten communities the yellow warning will be activated due to rain, wind or rough seas.

With Bernard, Spain is immersed in what appears to be a chain of storms that are affecting southwestern Europe. This train of storms not only brings with it intense rainfall and winds, but also a sea storm that represents a challenge for authorities and citizens when it comes to staying calm and being prepared.

The AEMET, for its part, continues to monitor and report on the behavior of these storms. But, for now, attention is focused on Bernard, who, although brief, his time on the peninsula will be anything but unnoticed.
