Vox takes the town halls to fight its particular cultural battle

Vox has managed to water with its ideological flags a hundred agreements - the vast majority with the PP - to govern town councils for the next four years. Among which, six Spanish provincial capitals: Valladolid, Burgos, Guadalajara, Toledo, Castellón and Ciudad Real.

The extreme right has prioritized in the negotiations those areas that allow it during the legislature and from within the institutions to continue waging its particular cultural battle, despite the fact that these are councils with few powers and a low budget.

The president of Vox, Santiago Abascal, already warned this after the results of May 28 were known, which consolidated the far-right formation as the third political force. "Let the Popular Party not expect gifts", he announced.

According to party sources, this was the starting point of negotiations in which Vox has prioritized the disappearance of "ideological councils" - with reference to those of Equality -, and also dealing with the areas of public security to "to put order in the streets" and also to be able to eliminate the aid intended "for the progressive ideological agenda" to allocate them to "pregnant women" or the schooling of the smallest children.

The first agreement – signed on Tuesday in front of a chapel – between the PP and Vox to jointly govern a large city was in Elche. There, the extreme right will occupy the Family, Industrial Economy and Country councils, while the Equality and LGTBI will disappear. In this way, the ultras materialize two of their battlehorses during the electoral campaign: the promise to eliminate wallets that in their opinion "waste" citizens' money because they "don't solve their problems" and full support for the rural environment , where those of Vox consider that they have a bank of votes to exploit in the face of the next elections.

The formation led by Santiago Abascal was congratulated yesterday, through a press release, for having achieved in "dozens of municipalities" the security areas to work on "the eradication of violence, occupation, sexual assaults and all kinds of street crimes." It is another of the mantras that were repeated in any electoral act of this party. In their opinion, Spain suffers from a serious problem of public insecurity - despite the statistics of the Ministry of the Interior disproving this theory - which, they say, is largely caused by irregular immigrants, whom they call illegal. It is confirmed that they will be in charge of Citizen Security councils in Burgos and Valladolid, waiting to know the distribution of portfolios in other large capitals such as Toledo.

The hard core of Abascal has overseen all possible pacts from its headquarters in Madrid. There they have been waiting for a list of 135 municipalities from all over Spain where their votes were essential. And from there it was dictated to the local groups how they had to act. In these guidelines, the ultra-right has been clear at all times that one of the councils they had to achieve was that of Culture, a minefield in which to promote their cultural guerrilla, in their particular crusade against historical memory. So, they will direct the municipal culture policies in Valladolid, Burgos, Calvià (Mallorca), Ponferrada (Leon), Talavera de la Reina (Toledo)...

At Vox, they are convinced that their main source of votes is the citizen outraged by feminist policies, "illegal immigrants", the institutional neglect that the rural environment suffers... and that is also against the policies due to climate change. In the more than a hundred agreements signed, they have managed to include the maintenance of driving permits for vehicles over 25 years old, in addition to creating plans to reduce "low-emission areas to the minimum possible" with the aim of 'remove them. A promise made to residents and traders during the electoral contest. "Like all milestones achieved", they congratulate themselves.
