The PSOE is committed to accelerating Sánchez's investiture process after Leonor's swearing-in

“There are only a few days left on the calendar for that date of November 27,” said this Monday the spokesperson for the acting Government, the socialist Isabel Rodríguez, without ruling out that the investiture debate of Pedro Sánchez could be held next week. -in a session of Congress that could start on November 7 and hold a first vote the following day-, despite the fact that all the ongoing negotiations that the PSOE keeps open with the essential political forces to articulate the necessary parliamentary majority. The deadline effectively expires on November 27, to avoid a repeat of the general elections.

But the socialists hold their breath, and above all their expectations, because they warn that they still have to overcome a very important date on the calendar, before trying to unleash all the agreements that lead to the investiture of Sánchez, and it is the oath of the Constitution of Princess Leonor, which will be celebrated tomorrow, Tuesday, October 31. An appointment of great institutional relevance for Sánchez himself, and to which the PSOE attributes "historical and symbolic significance, as well as legal relevance", since it implies the continuity of the Crown in Spain, as the minister spokesperson highlighted again today. in functions. After the oath of the heir to the throne, next Wednesday, November 1, is a holiday. And, as of Thursday of this week, the PSOE trust that events can be precipitated towards Sánchez's investiture.

The express recognition of an amnesty for those prosecuted for the process that Pedro Sánchez carried out last Saturday before the federal committee of the PSOE, is indicative that the pieces of the complex puzzle of the investiture are falling into place. Once the programmatic pact for a new progressive government coalition between the PSOE and Sumar was sealed last week, agreements with Junts, Esquerra, EH Bildu, the PNV, the BNG and even the Canarian Coalition have yet to be finalized, however. as highlighted by the socialist leader himself. All of these groups would add up to a large absolute majority of 179 seats, if all of them join the yes to Sánchez bloc. Even if the Canary Coalition opted to abstain, the absolute majority would be 178 seats, enough to approve his investiture in a first vote in Congress, without having to wait for a second vote for which only a simple majority would be required. In the no to Sánchez bloc, only the 171 seats made up of the Popular Party, Vox and the Navarro People's Union are now assured.

The calendar, at this time, is being analyzed in detail. Due to Princess Leonor's swearing-in on Tuesday and the holiday on Wednesday, the Congress Board and the Board of Speakers of the Lower House are scheduled to meet next Friday, November 3. It must be taken into account that a possible bill is pending registration in Congress, which would contemplate amnesty for those accused of the process, according to the ongoing negotiations between the PSOE and the Catalan independence groups.

Next Sunday, November 5, the PSOE will in turn announce the result of the consultation with the militancy that it called last Saturday. Up to 172,600 members of the PSOE, the PSC and the Youth of both formations have the right to vote, to endorse the programmatic agreement with Sumar and “achieve the support of other political formations to reach the necessary majority” for Sánchez to overcome his investiture.

In response to this consultation, Sánchez himself called this Monday on the socialist militancy to be "up to this historic responsibility, with high vision and always in the interest of Spain."

“To achieve the necessary majority that allows us to continue advancing on the path of progress and coexistence, we have to agree with an even larger parliamentary majority,” said the leader of the PSOE in his letter to the militancy, after having sealed the pact. with Sumar. “A majority that demands to continue advancing in the reunion to overcome the still open wounds, the product of a crisis that we socialists inherited when we came to government,” he stressed.

“I am convinced that the amnesty will contribute to doing so,” Sánchez assured in his letter to the socialist affiliates. “Experience tells us that it is the right path, as proven by the success of measures adopted in the last legislature,” he indicated, in reference to the pardons for the independence leaders who were imprisoned. “Measures that have undeniably contributed to improving coexistence in Catalonia,” he highlighted.

“Now Catalonia is ready for a total reunion, as evidenced by the fact that more than 80% of Catalan society asks to continue advancing along this path. For that reason, in the name of Spain, in the interest of Spain and in defense of coexistence between Spaniards, I defend the amnesty in Catalonia for the events that occurred in the last decade," Sánchez concluded in his letter to the militancy, in the same terms in which he expressed himself last Saturday before the federal committee of the PSOE.
