The president of the CGPJ announces that he will leave the body before the summer

The president of the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ), Vicente Guilarte, has set a date to leave the body if there is still no agreement between the PSOE and the PP to renew it after more than five years in functions "My paper is a little deteriorated and not very colorful", acknowledged Guilarte in an interview this Friday with Onda Cero.

Since he became president at the end of July last year, Guilarte already announced that he would not perpetuate himself in the position for a long time. During this year he has tried to force a negotiation between the two political parties to unlock the renewal and elect a new CGPJ, but he has not achieved much progress. The PSOE and the PP, with Félix Bolaños and Esteban González Pons as their top representatives, have opened a negotiation table with the European Commissioner for Justice, Didier Reynders, who acts as a mediator to try to reach a solution, which has no air of prosper

In addition to this lack of momentum to achieve a real renewal, Guilarte sees that his presidency – which he reached by being the oldest member after the resignation of Carlos Lesmes and the retirement of Rafael Mozo – is not it has great supports within the organ. "I realize that I don't have much support within the Council either, my ideas are not the vocation of permanence that some here have, and I think that maybe it's time for someone else to take the lead", he assured.
