The PP-Vox agreement gives the reins of the Courts of Aragon to the ultra party

The extreme right already reigns in another regional Parliament. Thanks to the support of the PP, the deputy of Vox Marta Fernández was elected yesterday by an absolute majority as president of the Courts of Aragon, which makes her the second authority of the community. An agreement forged at the last minute which in principle is limited to the composition of the Board, but which may flatten the negotiations between both parties for the future investiture of the popular Jorge Azcón.

Out of doors, the PP took to "the history and tradition" of parliamentarism in the community to justify its decision. They defend that in the different legislatures it has been "usual" for the third party with the most votes - in this case Vox - to obtain a place in the governing body of the legislative power, and that a similar situation already occurred in first legislature of the socialist Javier Lambán with Podemos.

However, many see after the popular transfer of the presidency of the House the price to be paid to avoid the entry of the ultra-right into the Regional Executive, which Azcón aspires to command alone, despite the insistence of Vox for " assert their votes" and enter to share power.

"Today's agreement does not prejudge anything or determine any other agreement", stated in this sense the vice-president of Vox, Jorge Buxadé, at the gates of the Aljaferia palace. In a national key, the lieutenant of Santiago Abascal also assured that his party continues with "the outstretched hand" to negotiate in Extremadura "until the last second", a proposition that he extended to the rest of the places where arithmetic allows to replace the left of the Government. What has happened in Aragon "shows that, when the PP is willing to negotiate and has common sense, loyalty and good faith, things work", he asserted.

The construction of the pact between the right-wing parties experienced at times extraordinary situations. At the end of Thursday, the popular ranks called off the talks and proposed to resume them the following day. But two hours later, Vox surprisingly issued a statement in which they announced an agreement between the two so that their deputy, Marta Fernández, would occupy the presidency of the institution. The popular people took the news in stride, who initially did not confirm it and did not ratify it until well into Friday morning.

With this result yesterday, the Aragonese political panorama is left in a situation similar to that experienced in the Balearic Islands, where the PP granted the presidency of the Parliament to those of Abascal without closing its support for the investiture of the popular president . The next step will be the constitution between both parties of a working table that will have to explore during the coming weeks, with a maximum limit of two months, the possibilities of reaching an agreement for the investiture.

To get the solo government he wants, Azcón also negotiates with the PAR (one deputy) and with Terol Existeix (three seats). According to their internal calculations, apparently ratified yesterday in the Cortes, the popular people count on the vote in favor of the first and the very likely abstention of the second, as long as Vox does not have a hole in the future government.

The Mesa de les Corts d’Aragon was completed with the first vice-presidency for Mar Vaquero (PP) and the second for Elisa Sancho (PSOE).
