The magazine ¡Hola! has suffered, through WhatsApp, "the biggest hack in the history of the press" on the occasion of the wedding of Tamara Falcó and Íñigo Onieva, as pointed out by the Media Association (AMI), which has wanted to show solidarity with the publication.
"The magazine ¡Hola! announced on Saturday that it would print a special issue on Monday with all the details of the long-awaited link, as the publication usually goes on sale on Wednesday. But this launch has become the biggest act of piracy in the history of the press in our country", the AMI pointed out yesterday in a statement released to the media.
Despite the fact that, according to the note, "the first edition of the magazine has sold out in the newsstands and those responsible promise another one for tomorrow (today for the reader)", the AMI pointed out that the special of the ' Hello! has reached "more people than have bought the magazine" through the "massive" distribution of the publication through the WhatsApp social network, owned by Meta, which "ignored the legitimate right of the magazine to make the fruit of his work". The AMI warns that "piracy is a crime against intellectual property and carries prison sentences of between six months and four years", in addition to financial fines and the obligation to compensate for the damage caused.
As pointed out by the AMI, referring to the legislation in force, they commit a crime "both the people who download the content from legitimate access sources and distribute it for the first time, as well as those who receive it and forward it" .
For this reason, from the AMI they showed their "rejection" towards this kind of acts that "damage intellectual property, affect the sustainability of the publishing industry" and put "journalists' work in danger".
In addition, the AMI asked Meta, the owner of WhatsApp, to "behave responsibly" and asked it to "immediately stop the illegitimate distribution of editorial content and put in place the necessary means to prevent these behaviors from be reproduced in the future".
During the weekend many Spaniards were waiting for the considered "wedding of the year" between Tamara Falcó and Íñigo Onieva. The magazine ¡Hola! brought forward to Monday the 10th (instead of Wednesday, its usual publication day) a special issue with all the details of the long-awaited link.
The best kept secret until the magazine hit newsstands was the bride's dress, designed by Wes Gordon for Carolina Herrera. Crafted from ivory white silk crepe, the dress was embellished with embroidery and hand-stitched crystal rhinestones separated by a long row of buttons down the front.
