The former mayor of Barcelona Jordi Hereu will be the Minister of Industry in the new coalition government

Jordi Hereu will be the Minister of Industry of the new executive, according to La Vanguardia, and will be confirmed this afternoon by Pedro Sánchez. The former mayor of Barcelona - a position he held between 2006 and 2011 - is currently the president of the company Hispasat, operator of telecommunications satellites.

Jordi Hereu will thus assume a portfolio already with tradition among the leaders of the PSC, since during the mandates of President José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, the Ministers of Industry were José Montilla, later president of the Generalitat, and Joan Clos, who was also mayor of Barcelona, among 1997 and 2006.

One of the great novelties of the new government organization chart is the promotion of María Jesús Montero, until now Minister of Finance, as well as deputy general secretary of the PSOE, who will be the fourth vice president of the Government.

Among the former socialist regional presidents who were considered in the pools to join the new executive, it was finally the Canarian Ángel Víctor Torres who was chosen, in his case to assume the Territorial Policy portfolio that until now was directed by Isabel Rodríguez, according to what the Cadena has reported. Ser. Torres will also be the Minister of Democratic Memory, a portfolio until now in the hands of Félix Bolaños.

Pedro Sánchez is going to formally announce the composition of the new progressive coalition government between the PSOE and Sumar this morning, in an appearance at the Moncloa palace. Previously, the President of the Government will communicate the executive organizational chart to King Felipe VI. Once these appointments are published in the Official State Gazette, and the new ministers take possession of their portfolios, the first meeting of the Council of Ministers of this new term of Sánchez will be held.

Although the initial intention of the re-elected President of the Government was to form a Council of Ministers smaller than that of the previous legislature, he has finally chosen to maintain, as until now, up to 22 portfolios. Again, yes, there will be more women than men around the Council of Ministers table.
