The Can Planes farmhouse became Barça's

The very old house Planes is a paradigm of the Latin meaning of Les Corts: farmhouse surrounded by cultivated fields.

The first documented news dates back to a distant 1515, already linked to this family name: Jaume Planes. We know the history of the lineage that had it until 1950, thanks to the exemplary research of Imma Navarro; luckily he had found all the documentation intact.

Over the course of four centuries, eleven generations of heirs are detailed, down to the last: Francesc Planes i Buera, co-owner of the Regia perfumery. The peculiarity of Catalan civil law and the fact that there was never a lack of men in the family explains why this last name was always present throughout so much time.

When it was sold, both the house and the fields were in the impeccable condition demanded by the presence of an active and vivid set. The building maintained the well-kept atmosphere typical of a rural environment. A significant detail that stands out is a small sculptural relief embedded above the main door: the coat of arms of the patron saint Eulàlia, the initial of the owner's surname and the year 1702, when the end of a considerable reform was completed and extension of the house. Another more eye-catching detail is the large sundial.

The farmhouse had a generous plot of land around it, more than three hectares (the island of Eixample as a reference: one hectare) which continued to be dedicated to dryland crops and vineyards.

In the middle of the Carline war, the captain general Manuel Pavía was walking around the area on horseback; he was spotted and chased by an enemy patrol. He planted himself in Can Planes and asked the masover to hide him. He gave him peasant clothes and ordered him to climb an olive tree. When the armed group arrived, he confessed that he had not seen anyone. Saved, Pavía the varecompensar: all his descendants would be released from military service. It was fulfilled until 1936.

When Barça decided to build a field bigger than the one at Les Corts, president Montal tasked my father, a member of the board, to look for land. He considered that proximity essential. He did not hesitate to choose this estate. The purchase was formalized in 1950. And the preserved farmhouse was rehabilitated as the headquarters of the Barça youth team.
