Sumar proposes an independent body against corruption after the outbreak of the Koldo case

Sumar has reacted to the outbreak of the Koldo case with the proposal to create an independent authority to prevent cases of corruption. As its leader, Yolanda Díaz, said yesterday, the brand's parliamentary spokesperson, Íñigo Errejón, detailed this Saturday the need for Spain to place itself "on par with all the countries around us."

"It is good to do judicial work, of course, and investigation," he said from Murcia, "but we need to strengthen the mechanisms that guarantee that this cannot happen again and strong and transparent public institutions that are not colonized by commission agents; for those who take advantage of everyone's efforts to profit themselves," he added.

Errejón, who made these statements before participating in a public event of his party, regretted that we are experiencing a few days of "a lot of noise in Spanish politics" in what he described as a circus and shameful spectacle with "commission agents who have enriched themselves at the expense of people's fear and difficulties and suffering when we were all locked up at home, fearing for our lives or our loved ones during the pandemic."

"They are absolutely regrettable and terrible cases whether you have the card of the political party you have in your pocket, be it a party or a businessman," he added, and he hoped that the end of this matter will be reached.

His party, as he has announced, will support an investigation commission and for all this he has recalled that when he was a deputy in the Community of Madrid there was a case of "profiteering with commissions from the president's brother."

"We want to go one step beyond the somewhat irresponsible and somewhat regrettable circus that distances citizens from politics; we want to propose concrete measures such as an independent authority that can prevent and can serve to guarantee the transparency of public procurement of contracts. public, and concessions," he concluded.

Sumar wants to articulate its proposal following the suggestions of Greco, the advisory body attached to the Council of Europe, as stated by Yolanda Díaz, "it must be independent, enjoy complete autonomy, be appointed by the Congress of Deputies but not supervised by political parties, and have sufficient staff of officials to be in charge of prior control to prevent corrupt behavior.

"The time has come for us to deploy the mechanisms that Greco himself is indicating," he urged in an interview on La Sexta. "Let's do things right because he and you are not enough to fix the problems."

Sumar hopes that "all political formations, including the Popular Party, will vote in favor" of the creation of this body that El Greco recommends, because, "better than asking for resignations" as the PP is doing without knowing all the ins and outs of the summary, "is that we act to avoid it."
