Puig pilots the return to Barcelona of classic sailing

Barcelona, the same waters that next year will host the 37th edition of the America's Sailing Cup, will be the scene of a new edition, number 16, of the Puig Vela Regatta from July 12 to 15 Clàssica, the reference event for lovers of classic sailing in the Mediterranean and one of the biggest spectacles of this sport that can be seen, due to the showiness of the boats that take part.

The Barcelona coastline will see the evolution of some of the most emblematic sailboats from a dozen nationalities, authentic works of art of naval architecture from the 19th and 20th centuries, manned by more than 400 sailors.

Puig Vela Clàssica Barcelona has become one of the main classic sailing competitions in the world. The Real Club Nàutic de Barcelona, in collaboration with Puig Vela Clàssica, has everything ready to receive a select group of the most important classic sailboats in international nautical history. The winners of the last edition of the regatta and the Enric Puig Trophy, the Argyll, a classic yacht designed by Sparkman

Among the approximately fifty boats that will participate this year in the event, the Italian fleet will be represented, among others, by the Emeraude, a classic 15.3 meters long, built by Royal Huisman and armed by Vittorio Cavazzana, as well as the vintage boat Sandra, which belongs to the shipowner Marco María Carbonaro. The French fleet will ply the Mediterranean Sea with the Manitou, built in 1937 and captained by Loïc Melliand, and the vintage sailboat Madcap, owned by shipowner Thierry Rousselet.

For their part, the British will be represented by the Grayling, designed by J.F. Clyne, and for the impressive Big Boats Viveka, Mariska and Hallowe'en, a two-time winner, or the Sunshine, among others.

The Spanish Yanira, four times winner in its category, and the also four-time champion Marigan, of German nationality, complete this high-level fleet.

The Puig Vela Clàssica Barcelona Regatta is a fully consolidated event, which combines the best nautical tradition with a commitment to sustainability and respect for the environment, since the boats that take part in it were built with traditional materials.

The event, a magnificent pretext for the people of Barcelona to become fond of the spectacle of sailing, will have, as is tradition, exceptional viewpoints that will allow you to observe the maneuvers of these classic sailboats: the Real Club Nàutic de Barcelona, the beach of the Barceloneta, the Olympic Port and the Old Port.
