Feijóo enters opposition mode in the face of a mandate that he foresees as uncertain and tough

There is no going back and Alberto Núñez Feijóo will be from today, when Pedro Sánchez swears his office before the King, the leader of the opposition, and will begin to prepare the PP to exercise control over the Executive for a legislature that the PP predicts is "uncertain and tough".

The popular leader will address in the coming days or weeks the planned changes in the direction of the party, about which he maintains great secrecy even with his party colleagues.

The only thing that seems clear is that Cuca Gamarra will leave one of the two positions he now holds, the general secretary of the PP and the representation of Congress, which he held while Alberto Núñez Feijóo did not have a seat in the Chamber. Of the rest, there is a lot of speculation, but none based on real data.

What is clear to Feijóo is that he needs to strengthen the management because delicate moments are approaching in a legislature that will be marked by the pressure of the pro-independence parties on Pedro Sánchez, which can be seen in the agreement signed with Junts and ERC, starting with the amnesty

"I'm leaving more excited now than when I entered," he said on Wednesday as he left Congress. Yesterday, before leaving, after the vote, Alberto Núñez Feijóo addressed Pedro Sánchez, shook his hand and predicted: "It's a big mistake".

A mistake, he said afterwards, in statements to the press, for which the only person responsible is exclusively Pedro Sánchez.

Feijóo wants a party that starts from the first minute, that is, from the moment the Spanish Government begins to function, to act as an opposition. He wants the PP to be the one to lead the opposition to Sánchez's initiatives in relation to his pacts with the pro-independence parties. "We continue to work for our country", said Feijóo, because "we are appalled by the situation" in which Sánchez remains, "subject to a monthly contract that must be signed by independence".

As an example of this conditioning of the Spanish Government, Feijóo highlighted the debate that will be held on Wednesday in the European Parliament. "I believe, honestly, that the fact that the European Parliament is debating the basis of this investiture, which is an amnesty law, is the worst way to start a legislature".

Feijóo believes that the supposed questioning of the amnesty law in Europe is bad "for our international reputation and affects without a doubt our democracy. We had never had to live it in our democracy".

The president of the PP is also worried because the PSOE is "in the hands of those who want, first, recognition of a nation different from that of Spain, and second, a referendum on self-determination". And highlights the warnings of ERC and Junts to Sánchez during the investiture that if he does not do what they demand "this legislature will perish".

Feijóo wants a PP in which the Spanish are "the guarantee that will try to stop, with all the instruments at their disposal", everything that does not respect the laws and the Constitution. "We will try to work for our country and return to sanity, which the personal ambition of the candidate, now president, has led to an impasse", he said.
