Podemos covers Irene Montero before the reform of the law of 'only yes is yes'

There is no agreement between the two partners of the government coalition to modify the controversial law of Comprehensive Guarantee of Sexual Freedom, better known as the law of only yes is yes, but in Podemos they assume that there will be a reform whether or not there is an agreement between PSOE and United We Can.

With this backdrop, the purple formation has covered this Sunday the promoter of the norm, the Minister of Equality, Irene Montero, who yesterday Saturday opened the door to give in to raise the sentences after some 400 aggressors and rapists have seen their sentences have been reduced in recent months, a fact that has given ammunition, day in and day out, to the opposition, which today has once again charged against the central Executive. The leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, has criticized in the conclave of his formation in Valencia that the entire Government points to the Minister of Equality and has blamed the situation on the head of the Executive, Pedro Sánchez.

Be that as it may, what they are not willing to give up and compromise in the ministry that Montero commands is that there are changes in consent, an aspect that, in the words of the head of Equality, has come to stay and "does not touch ”.

With this complex scenario in the background and the agreements in the confluence still pending - there is détente but there is still no agreement between Sumar and Podemos for a single candidacy of Yolanda Díaz in the next general elections -, Podemos has vindicated today in an act in Madrid the the law of only yes is yes and its main electoral trump card, Irene Montero.

She, who is the one who suffers the most from the political storm that the application of the law has unleashed, and the general secretary of Podemos and Minister of Social Rights, Ione Belarra, have reiterated their position. The slogan of the act "Did you consent or not? Only yes is yes” was quite a declaration of intent.

In addition, they have insisted that it is a good law. "Although we know that the law is fine and that no legal reform is going to avoid these judicial decisions to reduce sentences, we are willing to reform the law, to accept the conditions that the majority partner of the government needs to come out together to face this offensive against the law and against the coalition government”, Montero summed up, adding that they are not going to give up the rights that feminists have won in the streets.

Belarra, for her part, has made it clear that they will not allow a return to the model prior to the law of only yes is yes, and has taken advantage of the act –ad hoc– to wrap up her partner: “Thank you for putting your body up to defend us to all of them”, he dedicated to her. The leader of Podemos, however, has avoided talking about the negotiations with the PSOE to modify the law and increase the sentences.
