The representatives of the cultural institutions and the theater and music festivals of Barcelona have welcomed the Institute of Audiovisual and Performance Techniques, a new Vocational Training (FP) center specialized in technical training for live shows, which will start in 2023- 2024 and that will promote future technicians in lighting, sound, stage machinery, production and interpretation. Some professionals who are scarce right now, many close to retirement, and that the sector must hire outside of Catalonia, just coinciding with a greater dynamism of the cultural sector.
"Barcelona is a cultural lung and well-trained personnel were needed," said Jordi Martí, the city's deputy mayor for Culture and Education, Jordi Martí, who highlighted the fact that young people are going to love "doing internships of sound in Razzmatazz, a room where they will surely dance".
The new FP center that has been launched by the Barcelona Education Consortium, will have 290 places next year and 20 teachers, who will be doubled next year. It will be located in several spaces: in the building now occupied by the Escola Auditori center, in Calle Almogàvares, in the Teatre Nacional de Catalunya, in the Razzmatazz room and in the Orfeó Martinenc.
The Minister of Education, Josep Gonzàlez-Cambray has highlighted that the students are the professionals who will work in music concerts and festivals in spaces in the city (Auditori, Palau de la Múscia, Liceu de Barcelona, Orfeó Martinenc, Razzmatazz, Primavera Sound , Sonar), in theater shows (Teatre Nacional de Catalunya, Lliure, Becket, Versus Teatre, teatros del Paral.lel, Mercat de les Flors)."Increasing the offer of FP is not enough", he said, "we have to guide the places towards labor needs".
The Consorci is making agreements with cultural institutions in Barcelona, both public and private, so that students can do internships and receive training from active expert professionals.
The disposition of the sector, as it has been underlined in the presentation of the center, has been maximum offering spaces, practices and professionals. "We have to train talent and not leave it outside," Natàlia Garriga, Minister of Culture, has set an objective.
The Institut de Tècniques Audiovisuals i de l'Espectacle, directed by Joan Pedroche, will integrate all the higher-level professional education of the different disciplines that include the performing arts. Some are new qualifications or that are only offered by the Institut del Teatre, such as lighting, sound, the use of stage machinery.
In addition, image technicians, filmmakers, producers and councilors. There will be only one cycle of intermediate degree (Video, DJ and sound) and two baccalaureates, of the technological scientific and performing arts modality. All this technical offer is complemented with a higher degree in interpretation, which will provide the creative aspect.
The center plans to offer in the near future continuing education for professionals and certificates of professionalism to recognize skills acquired through experience. In this way, it can be established as an integrated center (which offers training for students and workers), specialized in an economic activity and linked to the territory. Companies can form part of the social councils in such a way that they can indicate the training needs and have an agile influence on the curriculum or new qualifications.
Barcelona has specialized centers in other areas such as health (Bonanova Institute, linked to the Salut Mar Park), digital (the Barcelona Technological Institute with IT companies), sports (the Barcelona Sports Institute, located in Montjuic), food ( Barcelona Food Institute, with Mercabarna), logistics (the Barcelona Logistics Institute, in the Free Zone, inside the Port), or the Information and Communication Technology Institute, which is located in the 22@ neighborhood.
