Texas airport employee dies "sucked" into plane engine

An employee of the Texas airport died this Friday after being "sucked" by the engine of a plane that had just landed on the runway, the US agency in charge of investigating transport accidents (NTSB) announced this Sunday.

The man was "sucked into the engine" of a Delta plane that had "landed at San Antonio International Airport from Los Angeles, California, and was heading to the gate with only one engine running," the NTSB reported.

The NTSB has opened an investigation to determine the consequences of this accident, which occurred on Friday around 10:25 p.m. local time.

The man worked for the company Unifi Aviation, according to local media, a company that offers assistance services to several airlines, including Delta. Delta airlines said they were "deeply saddened" by this accident and assured they would "cooperate with the authorities" who are leading the investigation, in a press release sent to the local channel KENS 5.

On Wednesday, the Piedmont Airlines airline was fined more than $15,000 by the federal agency in charge of preventing workplace accidents (OSHA), for its responsibility in the fatal accident involving an airport agent, which occurred last year in similar circumstances.
