Its defective sign had transformed "Chamas tacos" into "Hamas tacos": the municipal police of Valence, in the south of France, intervened in a restaurant in the city to order the missing "C" to reappear, according to reliable sources.

The recorded scene was uploaded to TikTok by a young resident and received approximately 1.3 million views: On Wednesday night, several municipal police officers intervened in the local franchise of the fast food chain “Chamas Tacos.”

"If you leave it this afternoon, there will be an administrative closure tomorrow," one of the police officers could be heard saying in the video about the sign: "If you don't want to understand it, we'll make you understand it."

The municipal agents remained in the establishment for almost an hour until the manager, who was absent when they arrived, went to turn off the neon lights in which the name of the Islamist group responsible for the deadly October 7 attack against Israel.

"The police intervened because neighbors, clients or passers-by reported the problem," the city council confirmed to AFP, ensuring that "at no time did any elected official, not even the mayor, send the municipal police."

The City Council expressed its surprise "that the owner of the restaurant had not seen the problem coming", and was also "reassured to know that he was carrying out construction work", a communications official told AFP.

The fast food group that indicated that the sign was due to be repaired on Friday, explaining that the manager initially expected more extensive repair work, scheduled for the end of the year.
