Arrested after fatally running over a man in O Pino and fleeing

The Civil Guard has located and arrested a young man accused of fatally running over a resident of O Pino (A Coruña) this Monday, January 1, and subsequently fleeing.

As reported by the worthy, it is a 19-year-old male, also a resident of O Pino. The arrested person, who for the crime of involuntary manslaughter, tested positive in the alcohol test carried out. The test showed a figure of 0.38 milligrams of alcohol per liter of expired air when, since he is a novice driver, the maximum rate at which he is allowed to drive is 0.15.

The events occurred around 11:40 a.m. when a vehicle ran over two people who were walking on the road between Ferreiro and Dodro, in a tunnel under the A-54, and, as a consequence, a 67-year-old man died instantly.

The two victims, brothers-in-law between them, were walking with the woman's husband - who was injured - along a small sidewalk inside the tunnel when a vehicle passed at high speed and ran over two of them, fleeing.

It was the third person, who was left unharmed, who called the emergency services to ask for help and report that the vehicle had not stopped moving.

An operation made up of the Arzúa and Santiago Firefighters, the Civil Traffic Guard and an ambulance and the 061 medical helicopter based in Santiago moved to the area.

The doctors could do nothing to save the life of the man, who died instantly, while the woman was transferred to the Clinical Hospital of Santiago with injuries to her leg.

Immediately, the Civil Guard launched an operation to locate the alleged perpetrator of the events, taking into account that remains of the vehicle had been left in the tunnel itself and with the suspicion that it must be a resident of the area if he had used that secondary track to get around. Finally, a few hours later they located him and arrested him.
