Therapy dogs: the new allies of Istanbul airport to combat traveler stress

Istanbul Airport has welcomed five new members to its team, but these are not the typical employees one would expect to find at such a busy transportation hub. They are therapy dogs that are dedicated to reducing travelers' stress.

These certified canines have gone through rigorous training specifically designed to help humans in times of anxiety and tension. Since February 2023, the "Therapy Dog Team" has been active, playing its role effectively among the crowds and offering comfort to passengers in need.

Kadir Demirtas, customer experience manager at Istanbul Airport, highlights the importance of ensuring the safety and complete adaptation of these dogs in all areas of the airport. This attention to detail ensures that travelers can enjoy the presence of therapy dogs with complete peace of mind.

Among the notable members of the team is Kuki, a Lagotto Romagnolo who leads the group. Next to him is Alita, a Border Collie. All of them are helping travelers deal with the stress and overwhelm that traveling sometimes causes, especially in an airport as busy as Istanbul's.

Wearing badges and uniforms that identify them as official airport staff, these therapy dogs operate on a set schedule. Its presence not only relieves the stress of fatigued travelers, but also demonstrates Istanbul Airport's commitment to the emotional well-being of its passengers.
