'The Snow Society' will compete for the Golden Globe for best foreign language film

The Snow Society, by J.A. Bayona has been selected to compete for the Golden Globe for best non-English language film at the gala that will take place on January 7 at the Beverly Hilton hotel in Los Angeles. It is a Netflix blockbuster about the aerial tragedy in the Andes in 1972 that has been chosen by the Film Academy to represent Spain in the next edition of the Oscars. On December 21, it will be known if it makes the cut at the Hollywood Academy.

The film, which hits Spanish screens this December 15, will compete with titles such as The Zone of Interest, by Jonathan Glazer, Anatomy of a Fall, by Justine Triet, I Captain, by Matteo Garrone, Fallen Leaves, by Aki Kaurismäki and Past lives, by Celine Song.

Unlike ¡Vive! ((Frank Marshall, 1993), the film does not focus only on recreating the accident, but also delves into the psychology of the young survivors who were rescued after 72 days of agony, as well as those who never returned from the mountain.

A project based on the book of the same name by Pablo Vierci, which collects the testimonies of the 16 young people who returned home alive and in which the Barcelona filmmaker has been involved for ten years, and which represents his return to Spanish sixteen years after The Orfanato (2007), his acclaimed debut film.

The snow society successfully closed the last edition of the Venice festival and was subsequently screened at the San Sebastián and Sitges festivals.
