The best songs by Ryūichi Sakamoto: from 'The Last Emperor' to 'High Heels'

The world of music is in mourning after learning of the death, which occurred on March 28, of the famous pianist, composer and member of the Yellow Magic Orchestra Ryūichi Sakamoto. The musician received a diagnosis of terminal throat cancer in 2014 that did not prevent him from continuing to water the world with his particular compositional style, in which he mixes classical piano with electronic reverberations. Oscar winner for the soundtrack of The Last Emperor, we remember some of his most outstanding songs.

He began composing for film in 1983 with the soundtrack for Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence, a British-Japanese film directed by Nagisa Ōshima.

He won the Academy Award, Grammy Award, Golden Globe Award, and New York, Los Angeles, and British Film Critics Awards for Best Original Score for his score for Bernardo Bertolucci's The Last Emperor.

In this album he outlined his umpteenth farewell, planned with Japanese precision and extreme sensitivity while the cancer was reproducing. The tributes to his reference composers: Bach, Chopin and Debussy are evident.

The Mediterranean Sea (Composition for the opening of the Olympic Games in Barcelona 1992)

The Japanese also worked for Pedro Almodóvar in this film starring Victoria Abril and Miguel Bosé.

He returned to work again for Bertolucci in Little Buddha, a drama starring Keanu Reeves, Bridget Fonda and Chris Isaak.
