Should I cut my cat's hair?

Clean sandbox and full feeder and drinker. We are used to spreading the myth that caring for cats is that simple. And while it's essentially true that they're much more independent than their canine companions, these popular pets require more attention than just meeting their vital needs. Especially when it comes to the fur of cats.

In certain situations, the question of whether or not to cut a cat's hair could arise. But this should only be done if there is no other alternative and always when qualified personnel, a veterinarian or specialized cat groomer, consider it so. Although this practice has its advantages, there are also points against it that must be taken into account.

The most common reason for giving a cat a haircut has to do with the appearance of knots in its fur. Especially in the case of some breeds that are prone to suffering from them, such as the Persian, the Angora or the Himalayan. In this particular situation it might be necessary to go to a specialized center where they cut the cat's hair to get rid of these knots. Because they are capable of bringing with them very negative consequences on the health of the feline's skin.

In this way, the coat will be renewed and healthier, and any discomfort that the animal may be suffering will disappear. However, the price to pay is considerable. A visit to a cat groomer is a high-stress experience for your pet. So it is recommended to avoid it as much as possible.

The process of cutting a cat's hair makes them suffer a lot of anxiety and entails certain difficulties, especially if there are knots. Also, do not forget the sensitivity of cats' skin. For all these reasons, it is totally inadvisable for a non-professional person to cut the fur of his pet. In cases where it is necessary, you should always go to a qualified center.

What the owner of a cat can do is ensure the health of its hair and take care of it at home through regular brushing, at least once or twice a week. The type of comb used will also depend on the cat in question. So it is advisable to follow the veterinarian's instructions about the type of brush that best suits the needs of the cat. With this practice, in addition, blood circulation will be stimulated and the risk of suffering hairballs in the stomach will be reduced.
