Jordi Canyissà, awarded with an Antifaz award for his divulgative work on comics

La Vanguardia journalist Jordi Canyissà, comic critic for the literary supplement Culture/s, has been awarded an Antifaz award for his informative work in that medium. The Antifaz seek to recognize the cultural and industrial contributions that have occurred in the universe of comics and, in the case of Canyissà, the jury has valued his extensive career as a press communicator in different media, as well as his work in books about fundamental comic strip authors such as Vázquez, Raf or Ibáñez.

The awards ceremony will take place this Friday at the Valencia Comic Fair which, once again this year together with the Chair of Comic Studies Fundación SM-Universitat de Valelencia, recognizes the work of promoting comic culture and the promotion of reading with the Antifaz awards. Among the winners are also Manuel Bartual, for Erwin, the Quantum Cat, for best children's comic; Paco Roca and Rodrigo Tarrasa, awarded in the category of best national comic for their joint work in El abismo del olvido; Kate Beaton for best international comic for Ducks; o Cesar Sebastián as a revelation author by Ronson.

"How excited this Antifaz award makes me. And what a luxury to be together with authors and editors that I have read so much, enjoyed and admire so much. Thank you to the jury for thinking that I could be there. Cheers and comics for everyone," wrote the journalist on his X profile (formerly Twitter).

Other winners have been Editorial La Cúpula, which has been recognized with the Antifaz award for the contribution to comics heritage for its valuable work in publishing Spanish and international comic classics; Cristina Durán and Miguel Ángel Giner Bou are the 2024 Antifaz prize for the career of a Valencian author; and, finally, the Antifaz award for lifetime achievement in comic translation went to Celia Filipetto, for her long and fruitful career as a translator.

The Antifaz awards, whose first edition was held in 2020, this year had a jury chaired by Noelia Ibarra and made up of Adela Cortijo, both from the University of Valencia. They have also trained Jorge Fombellida, general director of Feria Valencia; the author and expert René Parra, from IES Benlliure; and Álvaro Pons, who acts as secretary.
