Does your pet get stressed with a house full of people? Follow these tips

Pets, just like humans, can be very lazy or more shy and introverted or even scared. The latter prefer to interact exclusively with other animals and people whom they already know and with whom they trust, but they become overwhelmed by crowds of people or when the house is full of visitors.

If your pet does poorly when there are many people around him, Christmas may be a particularly difficult time. Especially if you are going to host some important celebration that will cause your house to receive many people unknown to the animal.

It is advisable not to make the mistake of forcing your pet to interact with people if he does not feel safe or comfortable. But it is not a good idea to lock it in a room without taking certain aspects into account, as the animal could perceive it as an unjustified punishment that generates even more stress. To prevent your dog or cat from having a bad time when your house is full of people, take note of the following tips.

As a general rule, you already know that you will receive your guests in advance. Before his arrival time, give your dog a good walk, with time, letting him have as much fun as he wants exploring the environment or interacting with other dogs. At home, whether you have a dog or a cat (or both), spend time playing with them and stimulating them cognitively, for example through sniffing games.

In this way, not only will they have their needs done before people arrive, but they will also have used up a lot of energy, will be happy, calmer and will feel pampered.

It is convenient for your pet to have a place to go to take refuge from people and commotion, but you must prepare this in advance, because if you simply lock him in an isolated room, he may interpret it as a punishment. In the days before the event, move some of your pet's belongings, such as her bed or a blanket, as well as toys, to the chosen room or corner. Spend time together in that corner so he associates it with something positive.

When the time comes for the celebration, take your pet to this corner, where it should also have water, food, a litter box in the case of the cat, and toys. It is helpful if you have some edible that entertains you and takes time to eat. It is also convenient that you do not lock him up, but rather that he can come and go as he pleases.

Finally, explain the situation to your guests so that they avoid disturbing your pet as much as possible. Your dog or kitten will approach people if they wish. Also, ask them not to make too much noise and to refrain from offering food to your pet without your consent.
