De Blas Serrano, vineyards of commitment to tradition and their land

Bodega De Blas Serrano is defined by respect: respect for the land, for tradition and for customers. This respect originates in the land, since they only make their wines when the grapes meet the quality criteria they consider necessary for customer satisfaction.

To truly understand the spirit of De Blas Serrano wines, we must go back to the 12th century, when Fuentelcésped was founded by the Premonstratensian Order of the monastery of Santa María del Monte Sacro (today Santa María de la Vid).

In 1152, Alfonso VII confirmed the ownership of "illo loco qui vocatur Vide" to the Church of Santa María del Monte Sacro, its abbot Domingo and his successors.

In this way, the vineyard and wine became the sustenance of a town whose City Council, in the 17th century, established ordinances to regulate trade and wine production. At that time, all the arable land in Fuentelcésped was dedicated to vines, and wine prices were set in Castile.

Those responsible for continuing this centuries-old family tradition are Eugenio de Blas, Luis Miguel de Blas and José Manuel Serrano, all of them originally from the municipalities of Fuentelcésped and Fuentespina. The technical director of the winery is Sophie Kuhn, who has assumed the commitment and responsibility of extracting the best from this land.

The De Blas Serrano winery is very aware of its commitment to the land and tradition. According to its founders, "we all share a passion for wine, for things well done and for seeing our customers satisfied." This passion is mixed with an entrepreneurial spirit, love of the land, respect for basic fundamentals, and a culture and tradition that they adore.

For the winery, grapes are essential in the winemaking process. As a company, they assume the responsibility of not integrating into their production process more than the fruits that allow them to reproduce, within tolerable margins, a product that, being unique, has the hallmarks of a process and principles that they have defined out of respect for all those who have preceded them and for the satisfaction of all who will succeed them.

The De Blas Serrano winery knows that there are a multitude of variables involved in wine production, some of them random, others dependent and others determined by the process of caring for the vines and making the wine. As such, they depend on the grape and dedicate all their interest to it.

But there is another variable, foreign to them but fundamental to the process: the environment and the company in which a bottle is enjoyed.

The De Blas Serrano winery has a wide variety of wines, all of them made with local grapes and respecting the tradition and history of the winery. The red wines stand out especially, as they are the ones that have acquired the most fame over the centuries.

However, the winery also produces white and rosé wines, which have managed to gain a foothold in the market thanks to their quality and flavor.

Phylos 2016 from Blas Serrano wineries

One of those red wines that have brought so much fame to the winery is Phylos, a single-varietal red wine (100% ink from the country) with a cherry red color, clean and bright, with intense and fresh aromas of red and black fruits, spices and notes. elegant integrated wooden ones.

In the mouth it is balanced, silky and sweet, with well-integrated tannins and good persistence.

Phylos has been aged in French and American oak barrels for 12 months, with 80% French oak and the remaining 20% American oak. The grapes used to make it come from vineyards that are between 15 and 50 years old. According to Luis Gutiérrez, who tasted it for Robert Parker, Phylos is one of the most valuable wines from Ribera del Duero.

An ideal wine to accompany meat stews, cured sausages, fish, sheep cheeses and poultry.

Phylos 2016 is one of the wines found within the Ribera de Duero Selection by Gourmet La Vanguardia. Next to him, Lleiroso Reserva from Bodegas Lleiroso and Marqués de Burgos from Bodegas Lan. Six bottles that you can buy at gourmetlavanguardia.com or by calling 935 500 105.
