This was the most eventful edition of 'Operación Triunfo': a scare that ended in the hospital

The second edition of Operación Triunfo came to TVE in 2002. Singers like Manuel Carrasco, Beth and Nika participated in one of the most eventful editions of the format. Three weeks after the start of the contest, the winners suffered a serious accident that left some of them in the hospital after a metal ladder collapsed during one of the rehearsals.

During the rehearsal of the fourth gala, in which the contestants were standing on a metal structure, the set's ladder collapsed, causing injuries to the contestants who were in the rehearsal. Hugo, Vega, Miguel Nández, Tessa and Nika were the most affected in the incident, to the point where Nika and Tessa had to remain under observation for two days to return to the contest.

Those affected, who were transferred to the Bellvitge Hospital, participated from the medical center in what TVE turned into a special gala. Presenter Carlos Lozano connected live with one of the reporters who was with the contestants in the hospital.

During the connection, one of the most iconic moments of the format occurred, where the reporter interviewed Nika while she was shown lying in bed and with a collar around her neck.
