In March 2023, the series 9-1-1 was canceled in the United States after six seasons. The Fox channel considered that the production costs were too high and, since they bought it from an external studio like 20th Television, they could not make it profitable in any other way. ABC, owned by Disney like 20th Television, chose to rescue it due to its potential in both the channel's programming and business synergy. A year later, the situation is the opposite: it has been renewed almost prematurely, after the broadcast of only three episodes of the current season.
At Disney, they always took into account what their role would be in the programming: joining Thursday nights to do tandem with Grey's Anatomy, which celebrates its 20th anniversary on the air, and Station 19. And, while the spin-off of firefighters of the medical series has been canceled and is broadcasting its seventh and final season, the Los Angeles emergency services have future prospects after obtaining an average of more than 5 million live viewers and a cumulative audience of 11.7 millions.
When talking about the high costs of 9-1-1, however, it is not a rumor. Angela Bassett, for example, makes $450,000 per episode, followed by Peter Krause, who makes $300,000, and then Aisha Hinds, Kenneth Choi, Oliver Stark and Ryan Guzman, who are estimated to earn around $100,000 per episode. With these salaries, the Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk show series has one of the highest-paid casts on television.
The new episodes of 9-1-1 arrive in Spain from Star Channel on April 15.
