Simorra, Lola Casademunt and Custo Barcelona: Catalan firms are gaining ground at MBFWMadrid

This 79th edition of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid, which presents the autumn-winter 2024 collections, has brought all the national creative talent to Pavilion 14 of Ifema to the delight of all those professionals, guests or curious people - it is the third edition in which tickets were sold to see the shows - who want to be up to date with fashion trends.

And while in the streets near the center of Madrid dozens of farmers demonstrated with their tractors in front of the Ministry of Agriculture, Freckles and Food, within the Ifema premises the firms came together in the same discourse of sisterhood to empower and promote fashion made in Spain.

“First we have to believe it in our own home,” said Álex Miralles, creative director of the men's collection at Pedro del Hierro, one of the most recognized brands on the national and international scene that celebrates fifty years since its foundation. Catalan brands have also gained strength and notoriety on the Madrid catwalk, becoming the big “headliners” of the days.

First it was Simorra who made the public excited with The Memory of Time, a proposal that emphasized the passage of time and discovering who we are and where we come from to understand our origin. Simorra reinterpreted the future using three-dimensional fabrics and paid tribute to the past with a collection inspired by fossils.

It was the second time that the Barcelona brand showed at MBFWMadrid and, unintentionally, it was also confirmation of the great reception it has had in such a short time. Eugenia Osborne was one of the attendees who enjoyed the parade in the front row, as well as other content creators such as Marta Lozano, Teresa Andrés Gonzalvo or Sara Baceiredo.

Having just landed from New York, Custo Barcelona continued its trip to Madrid to present “We Art Custo”, its new proposal for autumn-winter 2024. Under a palette of vibrant colors - the great DNA of the brand - and graphic elements that reinforce the visual experience at the parade, the Catalan brand presented a collection where dresses took center stage along with sports sets, coats and jackets. Now, Custo Barcelona heads to the Milan catwalk to present “We Art Custo Part Two”, the latest installment of a collection that has already dazzled in New York and Madrid.

The final culmination of the Fashion Week came from Lola Casademunt by Maite and her collection inspired by the sumptuous Victorian era. The creative director Maite Casademunt took this stage as a reference and reinterpreted it with contemporary airs, floral prints, large bows, airy dresses and her great trademark, the animal print.

With a color palette that evokes a trip through time, the brand invites you to daydream with endless atristocratic-chic prints and fabrics. The Catalan firm is experiencing one of its best moments with an ambitious project of great expansion with more than 800 points of sale in Spanish territory and more than 550 in Europe.

The finalists for the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Talent award will parade on Sunday, February 18 at MBFWMadrid. In this field, the Catalan firms Adrià Egea, Anystudio, Dimoni and Oriol Clavell are among the candidates for the 23rd edition of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Talent, the competition that awards the best collection among the proposals of a total of nine emerging creators.

The brand selected by the jury will have the opportunity to walk on the catwalk at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Mexico and show the fashion of our country internationally, as previous winners such as Pepa Salazar, Ernesto Naranjo, Outsiders Division or Dominnico have already done.
