Brush or sponge to apply makeup base, which one to choose?

When creating makeup, just as important as the products used are the tools that allow you to shape the look. That is, all those instruments, such as brushes or sponges, that are used during makeup will be key when it comes to obtaining certain results. Since the same effect is not achieved by applying a makeup base with a brush as with a sponge. In fact, this will also depend largely on the type of brush or sponge used.

Generally, there are two camps in the world of makeup, those of those who prefer to use sponges on a regular basis and those who prefer brushes. It should be noted that there is no option that is better or worse than another, the only difference between the two has to do with the type of makeup you want to obtain, since the result can be very different.

The big difference between brushes and sponges when applying makeup foundation has to do with their coverage. In the case of using brushes, these will provide a finish with greater coverage; while with sponges you achieve a much more natural and lighter result. However, it is important to note that this will also vary depending on the type of tool being used.

As far as brushes are concerned, one of the most recommended is the kabuki type, wide, short and with thick hair, with which you avoid leaving marks due to the hairs on the head. The finish that can be achieved with it varies between medium and full coverage. On the other hand, the cat's tongue brush is the best option if you want to obtain high and uniform coverage. For greater lightness, it is advisable to use oval brushes.

As for sponges, these will be the best option for more natural looks and with a blending effect with the skin, they also make it easier to modulate the degree of coverage of the makeup base. However, for a medium or high finish, they will not be the most appropriate, since they will require several layers of application, since the key to makeup sponges is that they absorb excess product.

However, to achieve the best results with one tool or another, we must not forget the importance of cleaning them. This way they will always be in the best possible condition to fulfill their function and, above all, they will not negatively affect the well-being and health of the facial skin.
