Ana Obregón has decided to become a mother at the age of 68 by surrogacy of a girl whom she has also named Ana. The biologist and former actress traveled to Miami to welcome this baby, who is her only offspring after her death in 2020 by Alex Lequio. The age at which she wanted to be an Obregón mother is surprising, but the way to do it, through a surrogate, is becoming more and more a widespread practice among celebrities.

This case of Ana is reminiscent of that of Carmen Cervera due to the age of the adoptive mother. Baroness Thyssen became a mother at the age of 65 to María del Carmen and Guadalupe Sabina, two twins whose biological paternity is still disputed. In 2007, she already the baron's widow, she traveled to the United States to have them under a surrogate and through in vitro fertilization. At the moment it is unknown what fertilization technique and donor selection Ana would have used, something that she could share or, as is the case with Tita Cervera, reserve it for privacy.

It is not only single and elderly mothers who decide to use surrogacy to bring children into the world. Paris Hilton, at 42, is one of the most recent cases. Elon Musk, 51, and singer Grimes, 35, also secretly welcomed the ex-couple's second daughter via surrogacy in December 2021. And singer Nick Jonas, 30, and actress Priyanka Chopra, 40, did the same in 2020. "We are delighted to confirm that we have welcomed a baby through a surrogate," they confirmed in a statement.

The list of Americans who have had children by surrogacy is long because in the country it is a legal practice and with legal protection. Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Kardashian, Cameron Diaz, Nicole Kidman, Elizabeth Banks, Gabrielle Union, preferred surrogacy to traditional pregnancy or adoption on at least one occasion, a formula preferred by Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, or by Sandra Bullock.

In the case of gay couples, it is more common for couples made up of two men to resort to this practice to start a family. This is the case of Elton John, Ricky Martin, Neil Patrick Harris or Miguel Bosé, who was famous for his battle in court with his ex, Nacho Palau, to resolve the mess that each had only legally adopted two of the four children. that they decided to bring into the world when they were a couple.

On this side of the Atlantic, in the case of Spain, surrogate pregnancy treatments are not allowed by the Law on Assisted Reproduction Techniques, but it is totally legal for a Spanish citizen to have a son or daughter this way in a country where is regulated. Cristiano Ronaldo, Tamara Gorro, Kiko Hernández, Jaime Cantizano, Kike Sarasola, Miguel Poveda or Javier Cámara are some of the Spanish examples.
