Sad day for the team that makes up Mediaset España. The communication group that integrates channels such as Telecinco, Cuatro or Divinity has notified through its website that Alejandro Echevarría Busquet, who was its president for 26 years, has died.

The businessman held the senior position of the company from 1996 to 2022, at which time he was named Honorary President of Mediaset Spain. After Echevarría, the group appointed Francisco de Borja Prado y Eulate as the new president. A couple of months ago, at the end of 2023, Prado surprised his team and Mediaset viewers by resigning from his position.

In the article that Mediaset has published on the subject, the company has recognized the ''undeniable and transcendental role that Mr. Echevarría played in the Spanish audiovisual field'', as well as has highlighted how much he did for modernization and updating the group to new times.

The audiovisual company has also been very affected on social networks and has dedicated several publications to saying goodbye to and honoring its former president: ''Desolate at the death of Alejandro Echevarría, Honorary President of Mediaset España and key figure in the history of the media and the Spanish audiovisual sector. Echevarría's last public appearance was just a few days ago at the II Edition of the Fundación Comunicando Futuro- Alejandro Echevarría Awards, an event in which he posed alongside illustrious figures of national journalism such as Pedro Piqueras or Emilio Doménech.

In the speech he gave at the awards gala, the businessman highlighted the work they do since the foundation and what their goals were: ''We believe in reliable, sustainable communication adapted to current and future changes. The driving force of the Foundation is the firm conviction that a more and better informed society is a better society.

Alejandro Echevarría Busquet died this Monday, February 19, at the age of 81 in the Urduliz hospital. At the moment, the reasons that caused the death of the communicator have not been made known.

It should be noted that, despite the different physical ailments and setbacks he suffered throughout his life, Echevarría was active and working until the end of his days.
