A candidate to represent Israel this year at Eurovision dies

Eurovision 2024 is giving a lot to talk about almost half a year before its broadcast. The confirmation that Israel will be one of those who choose to take the crystal microphone has generated a multitude of criticism in various European countries. There are already several organizations linked to the festival that are pulling strings so that some participants consider this decision.

This indignation on the part of a sector of the population comes as a result of what has been happening in Gaza for a few months. Not only Eurofan associations, but also the specialized press, consider his presence offensive after the military response to the Hamas terrorist attack that has left thousands of Palestinians dead. Now, the issue has been put back on the table after Shaul Greenglick, a candidate to represent Israel at the festival, died on one of those missions.

Shaul Greenglick, 26, was an Israeli military reservist whose passion was music. So much so, that he decided to try his luck in Israel's Rising Star, a contest that ends up deciding Israel's representative in the next Eurovision Song Contest.

It was on December 3 when the artist took the stage in the middle of a leave that allowed him to be absent from his service in the war against Hamas. During the few minutes of performance, the candidate surprised the jury and the public with his impeccable voice. An audition that he did not hesitate to do in an army uniform.

An act that was liked by those present. And one of the judges did not hesitate to praise her decision when choosing military clothing. "It's reassuring," she snapped. "I would be happy to see you representing Israel at Eurovision," she added.

However, and despite his promising future within the program, since he had advanced to the next round, he had to abandon his intention to return to the Gaza Strip when summoned by one of his superiors.

After having to leave the contest to return to the front, Shaul Greenglick did not hesitate to speak out through social networks on December 14. "I imagined this year in a different way, as a year of aspirations and living my dreams," he began to relate. "Now I am living an old dream, that of fighting for the country. A new and different dream will have to wait a little," he added.

"I promise to continue fighting for this country that I love and also for my dreams in the future. Now there is only one thing on my mind and that is to continue fighting the darkness until we see the light," he wanted to make clear. However, her dreams have been cut short before their time.
