These are the traffic fines that you must pay in full: they do not have a 50% discount

There are many reasons why we can get a ticket when we drive. The General Traffic Regulations include so many rules that it is possible that we skip a rule and end up being penalized. Luckily, almost all traffic tickets have a 50% bonus if they are paid within the voluntary period, but there are a few that do not. We are going to review which are the infractions that involve the full payment of the fine.

First of all, it should be noted that there is only one legal system to know the exact location of the cinemometers. This is the radar detector that GPS navigators or applications such as Google Maps or Waze carry, which are fed from the DGT database that offers the location of the cinemometers. Instead, jammers and radar detectors are prohibited.

The inhibitor tracks the radars and cancels their operation while the detector combs and locates the cinemometers that it finds along the way. The new Traffic Law is stricter with drivers who use these devices, since it penalizes the mere fact of having them installed without taking into account whether or not they are being used, as was the case before the change in the regulatory text.

The fine for having a radar inhibitor installed is 6,000 euros and the loss of 6 points on the driver's license, which makes it one of the most expensive sanctions in the Traffic Law. The installation of a radar detector, for its part, entails a financial penalty of 200 euros and the withdrawal of 3 points. Neither of the two infractions has the 50% bonus even if they are paid within the first 20 calendar days after receiving the notification, so in all cases they must be paid in full.

Some fines, as is generally the case with speeding, are not notified at the same time they are imposed. The regulations establish that the habitual driver has a period of 20 days to identify the driver responsible for the infraction, against whom the disciplinary process will be initiated.

Therefore, if we falsely identify the driver to free him from the sanction, we will be incurring a very serious infraction. The fine in this case amounts to 1,500 euros that we will have to pay in full, since there is no possibility of obtaining a 50% discount for prompt payment.

The removal, concealment, alteration or deterioration of permanent or occasional signage is an offense that is punishable by a fine of up to 3,000 euros. Nor may a fine be appealed for carrying out works on the road without the corresponding authorization, not installing signaling or doing it incorrectly, situations that entail an economic sanction of the same amount, without the right to a bonus.

The fine for failing to comply with the rules that regulate industrial activities that directly affect road safety are also exempt from the 50% bonus for prompt payment. The financial penalty associated with this offense starts at 3,000 euros and can go up to 20,000 euros, depending on the severity.

The General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) recalls that payment of a fine cannot be divided or deferred, but must be paid in full in a single payment. In the event that an anomaly or incident is detected at the time of paying the penalty, the interested party may request a refund of said payment by contacting the Traffic electronic headquarters or in person by going to their offices. For this, it is necessary to obtain an appointment, except in the case of people over 65 years of age.
