On the occasion of the upcoming retirement of Juan Luis Durich Esteras, general director of the Cooperative, the Governing Council of Consum has appointed Antonio Rodríguez Lázaro, current director of Store Management, the new general director of Consum. Juan Luis Durich was appointed general director of the Cooperative in 1993. Since his incorporation, Consum has gone from having a staff of 1,710 people and sales of 273.38 million euros, to becoming the sixth national distribution company. food.
Under the direction of Durich, and since the Cooperative decided to separate itself from the Eroski Group and resume its activity alone in 2004, Consum has sustained constant growth with a sales turnover that reached 3,864.3 million euros in 2022, a staff of 19,337 people and with a commercial network of more than 874 supermarkets throughout the Mediterranean arc, from Andalusia to Catalonia.
With more than 30 years in the distribution sector, and distinguished as Leader of the Year in 2008, Durich has managed to position Consum as the largest cooperative by business volume in its area of influence and the first by number of consumer members worldwide. national.
Antonio Rodríguez Lázaro, born in Albacete in 1963, is an industrial engineer from the Universitat Politècnica de València and has developed most of his professional career in Consum. His career in the Cooperative began in 1992, and after carrying out process organization functions, directing one of the hypermarkets that the organization had and being responsible for the Fresh Logistics area, in 1997 he joined the board of directors as director. of Computer Science and Systems.
In 2005 he took over the management of the newly created Partner-Customer department, which combined the functions of relationship with partner-customers, marketing and loyalty, communication, quality and institutional relations. Starting in 2008, he began to perform his duties as Director of Logistics, and from 2012 to the present, he is Director of Store Management. Throughout his career at Consum he has directed different key areas, which has given him extensive knowledge of the organization and the business that will be the basis for him as CEO of Consum.
