Controversy in the Madrid metro for advertising Formula 1: "You spend money on stupid things"

Formula 1 will return to Madrid 45 years after the races held at the Jarama circuit, as confirmed this Tuesday by the Italian Stefano Domenicali, president and CEO of the competition, during the presentation ceremony of the agreement, by which the capital is committed to organize the Spanish GP from 2026 to 2035.

A decision greatly celebrated by the president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso; Ángel Asensio, president of the Madrid Chamber of Commerce; and the mayor of the capital, José Luis Martínez Almeida, who has assured that the GP will not entail any expense for the public coffers.

However, some groups in the council are wary that it will not involve any expense. Más Madrid has already announced that it will request economic and environmental reports to know the real impact of its organization in Madrid.

Now, the controversy is in the Madrid Metro. Some citizens have shown their indignation over the decision to cover the seats of line 8, which will connect the airport with the hybrid circuit, with the checkered flag print.

"Instead of spending money on stupid things, you could solve the usual malfunction of line 5," Iván Pérez reproached him on X (formerly Twitter). Others assured that they would first have to repair the stairs at the Alonso Martínez stop, which have been broken for "months." "And the elevator in Puerta del Ángel?" asks another.

From the public company, they explain that this vinyl has been installed to join "the Formula 1 party." As detailed in a statement, a special vinyl train has also been prepared with images related to this competition.
