Young people who turn 18 in 2022 can now apply for the Youth Cultural Bonus

The Youth Cultural Bonus will be available from this Monday, July 25, for young people who turn 18 in 2022, who will be able to benefit from the aid of 400 euros, as announced last Thursday by the Minister of Culture and Sports, Miquel Iceta .

Young people will be able to apply for the Bonus until next October 15. "They will already have a wide range of cultural products and services," said Iceta.

To apply for the cultural bonus, young people must obtain the digital certificate from the National Currency and Stamp Factory. Subsequently, a Pin Key will be incorporated into the process.

The cultural bonus is a kind of "purse card", in which young people, over a year, can allocate 400 euros to cultural activities and products. In those 400 euros there are three segments: one of 200 euros of live culture, 100 euros of physical cultural consumption (books) and 100 euros for the consumption of digital products.

Regarding the subscription to digital platforms with the cultural bonus, Iceta explained that the subscription will be for "a maximum of four months", but that "nobody prohibits the platforms from giving away more months" than those paid with the bonus.

"The bonus wants to encourage young people to experiment with cultural products and services. This has a general cultural objective for society as a whole, culture for young people and the cultural sectors themselves," he said.

He also assured that, since it is a subsidy, it must be "absolutely transparent": "It is a significant amount of public money and the Ministry must ensure its proper use."

"We tell young people: get your digital identity and sign up before October 15 to be a beneficiary of the youth cultural bonus", encouraged Iceta, who acknowledged that they want to be "very prepared to correct, help and inform" and stated that the cultural offer "is not going to stop growing" so he has added that the beneficiaries "may decide to wait a while to spend the bonus".

The idea of the Ministry of Culture and Sport, as the Minister has said, is that the Youth Cultural Bonus "has come to stay", although that "will depend on the governments that exist". "For next year we have certain guarantees and in the worst case that there are no Budgets, the budget extension would allow us to continue with the bond", he affirmed.

"We intend to maintain this bond and it seems reasonable to us to have two or three years' experience to see if we introduce any changes," he said.

In reference to the amount of the bonus endowment, of 400 euros, Iceta stated that they took "example" from France, which is at 300 euros, and Italy, at 500 euros, so they decided to place themselves "in that environment". Precisely, he commented that the opinions of France and Italy on this measure "will save them some scare", although he admitted that "surely some" they will have.

The cultural bonus also includes the video game sector because, according to the Ministry, it has "a lot of growth potential, it combines technology, many ways of creating and, on many occasions, it is the first gateway to the world of culture for the youngest , since through the video game they discover movies, books or historical figures". However, bulls were excluded.
