You can now apply for the rental assistance voucher for young people

This Wednesday, June 8, the deadline to apply for the Youth Rental Bonus approved by the Government opens. It is an aid of 250 euros per month for a maximum of two years that will allow tenants between the ages of 18 and 35 who meet the income requirements to pay the rent.

In order to access the aid, it is necessary to be registered in the rented house or room, have a regular source of income and not owe any monthly rent. The aid will be limited to rentals of up to 600 euros per month, although the autonomies will take it to 900 euros per month. This is the case of the Barcelona metropolitan area (Baix Llobregat, Barcelonés, Maresme, Vallès Occidental, Vallès Oriental).

If assistance is requested for the entire rental of the dwelling, the income of all members of the cohabitation unit of working age will be taken into account, whether or not they are the holders of the contract. When two or more contract holders apply for the subsidy in the same dwelling, individual income will be considered.

In the case of aid for the rental or transfer of use of a room, only the income of the natural person who is the sub-lessee or requesting tenant will be considered. The annual income limit will be 23,664.15 euros in 2021, which will rise to 24,301.57 in 2022.

In Catalonia, the Generalitat will be in charge of distributing these funds, which in its case amount to 29 million euros – 14.5% of the 200 million budgeted at state level for the measure, although young Catalans represent 17% of the total-. An amount that will help about 10,000 young people. In Spain as a whole, it is estimated that the beneficiaries are between 60,000 and 70,000 young people.

The bonus is part of the Housing Plan 2022-2025 and aims to raise the low rates of youth emancipation in Spain, since barely 15% of young people between 16 and 29 years of age have left their parents' house.

Applications can be submitted online or in person at the offices that each autonomous community has between June 8 at 9:00 a.m. and June 17 at 5:00 p.m. Petitions will be resolved on a first-come, first-served basis until available funding is exhausted.
