Yamaha celebrates 30 years in electric bikes with the new PWseries C2

Despite being best known for its innovations in the world of motorcycles, the truth is that Yamaha must also be considered one of the pioneering brands in the world of electric bicycles. And it is that no less than three decades ago that the Japanese firm manufactured this means of transport so well known and used today.

And not only that, at the same time it has developed and supplied electric bike motors to other brands. For example, currently, companies as successful in the cycling field as the Taiwanese Giant use Yamaha technology in their electric bikes. The arrival of new features from the Japanese company has been constant in recent times and now it is the turn of the new PWseries C2 power unit.

This unit is designed to be used mainly on urban electric bicycles, with specifications designed to comply with European regulations. The PWseries C2 technology is derived from the well-known range of PW-CE motors, but in this case 10% more maximum torque is offered, which means better overall performance, especially when used in urban areas.

The compact dimensions of this electric motor should not be overlooked, which means that it can be easily adapted to multiple frame types. According to data provided by Yamaha, the new PWseries C2 motor weighs just 3 kg, making the component an ideal solution for lightweight electric bicycles.

With a maximum torque of 55 Nm, it does not aim to compete among the most performance-oriented proposals on the market but instead seeks to offer, in contained proportions, enough strength to be able to easily ascend even the steepest slopes. In addition, the engine is equipped with an innovative system capable of adapting performance at all times.

The engine uses a series of sensors with which driving circumstances are monitored. This makes it possible to offer an automatic mode that automatically switches between four different power assist settings depending on the type of terrain and other variable conditions. For his part, the cyclist can also manually choose the desired level of assistance.

The four modes are respectively called Eco, Eco, Standard and High, and the use of each of them will depend on the preferences of each cyclist in terms of efficiency or performance. It will be possible to change from one mode to another from the bicycle itself where the system is installed and also through a mobile application.

As assured by Yamaha, the new PWseries C2 drive unit will be fully compatible with all the brand's screens and battery configurations. This will make it easier for existing electric bicycles with motors from the Japanese firm to adopt the system in their new versions.
