Vox imposes on the PP in Aragon the regression in gender violence and language policy

The Popular Party and Vox signed this Friday at the headquarters of the Aragonese Parliament the agreement to form a Government in Aragon, a text in which the ideological imprint of the formation of the extreme right is very present in sections such as education, equality or historical and cultural heritage .

One of the points that generated the most attention in the presentation was that of Well-being and Family, where the signatories avoid mentioning gender violence. Instead, there is talk of "support and fight against violence against women", the need to work to eradicate "sexist discourses" or support and assist "victims of domestic violence", among which they cite that suffered by women, children and the elderly.

“(Macho and intrafamily violence) are two different things. There is sexist violence and violence of the other, with children, grandparents… That is why it includes both”, Ana Alós, the popular spokesperson in the Cortes, came forward. The section also includes the reform of the Law on Gender Identity and Expression and Social Equality and Non-Discrimination (known as the 'trans law').

In another of the blocks, the coalition proposes to repeal the Law of Democratic Memory of Aragon, which they described as "sectarian and incomplete", the suppression of the General Directorate of Language Policy or the revision of the text of the law of use, protection and promotion of the languages and linguistic modalities of Aragon.

"We will watch over Aragonese history and culture, indissoluble parts of Spanish history and culture, against the lies and interested manipulations of exclusive and expansionist Catalan nationalism", it includes in another of its sections.

On education, the text is committed to guaranteeing the freedom of parents, reinforcing educational inspection to "preserve the quality of teaching, removing ideology from the classroom and allowing parents to choose the education of their children." Likewise, it expresses its intention to eliminate the commissioners of Agenda 2030, Childhood and Depopulation.

What does not appear anywhere is an express mention of the Ebro transfer, a probable source of conflict with other communities such as Valencia, where both parties have reached a similar pact. In this sense, it contemplates "the full development of all hydraulic regulation works" necessary to guarantee the statutory water reserve, the modernization and expansion of irrigation, industrial and mouth supply.

“This is the common point we have reached,” said Nolasco, who assured that he would not give up anything. Next to him, Alós stressed that “one thing is what is in the party programs - the Vox one includes the transfer - and another is the government agreement. That is what we are going to defend tooth and nail, ”he added.

At the signing ceremony and subsequent press conference held in Zaragoza, the future Aragonese president, Jorge Azcón, was not present. In her place, the popular spokesperson in the Cortes, Ana Alós, appeared, who stamped her signature together with the regional leader and future vice president of the ultra formation, Alejandro Nolasco.

Regarding the absence of the popular president, who will be sworn in next Thursday, Alós pointed out that "what has been done in other autonomous communities such as the Balearic Islands has been done", where it was the parliamentary spokesmen who signed that pact, although in this case Vox He was not part of the Government.

After the signature, both affirmed that this coalition is a "reflection of change" that emerged from the regional polls to provide the community with a "stable and strong" Executive that, in addition, is a "bulwark in the defense of the Constitution, the unity of the Spanish Nation and the equality of Spaniards wherever they live”.

Azcón always said that he aspired to lead a government alone, for which he needed at least the abstention of Vox. However, the formation of Santiago Abascal flatly rejected that option and threatened to vote against it together with the block of the left together with the block of the left if he was not part of the Executive. Finally, the radical right managed to scratch a vice presidency -which Nolasco will hold- and two ministries: Agriculture and Livestock and Territorial Development, Depopulation and Justice, which will also fall to the vice president.
