On the outskirts of Altet, in Urgell, I saw some shrikes or capsigranys. Can you see them in these two photographs that I captured? This is the new visual challenge that I propose in El Reto de los Lectores de La Vanguardia.
The game mechanism is simple. I am going to reproduce the two images below, ordered from difficult to easy, and you have to find the birds in both snapshots.
The photographs are repetitive, therefore, when you locate the birds in the easiest one, you will be able to see them in the most difficult image.
Have you managed to locate the birds yet? Not yet? I'll give you some clues. The common shrike is small, as can be seen in these more detailed images that may help you.
This bird breeds mainly in the Mediterranean basin and spends the winter in Africa, around the Sahel. The song of the common shrike is a continuous sequence of trills and whistles. It is often started by a breathy squawk, followed by more melodious sounds. Also, shrikes mimic the songs of other birds, so each shrike's song pattern can be very different.
