Van der Poel spits on the crowd during his triumphal march in Hulst

The Dutchman Mathieu van der Poel won this Saturday the eleventh round of the cyclocross World Cup, held in Hulst (Netherlands), to continue his triumphant march in a season in which he has won seven races in fifteen days, three of them consecutively in the main circuit. All the ones he has disputed.

Van der Poel, current world champion, is going to win by day: he won the Superprestige in Diegem, the next day he won the Elite Cross in Loenhout and this Saturday he did it in Hulst, the scene of the resumption of the World Cup .

This time he led a Dutch festival with four cyclists of this nationality in the first four places. Joris Nieuwenhuis was second at 12 seconds behind, Lars van der Haar finished third at 20 seconds behind and Pim Ronhaar was fourth at 30 seconds behind.

The Belgian Wout van Aert finished fifth at 43 seconds, while the Spanish Felipe Orts, who was third in Loenhout on Friday, finished twelfth this time at 1:46 minutes.

In the last lap, the champion spat at a person from the audience who had insulted him repeatedly throughout the competition. "That's why they stay at home," Van der Poel said at the subsequent press conference.
