Toni Comín's mother, Maria Lluïsa Oliveres, dies

The mother of the former Minister and MEP of Junts Toni Comín, Maria Lluïsa Oliveres, has died tonight at the age of 89 in Leuven (Belgium), where she had spent the last few weeks with her son after being ill. The former head of Salut, who has lived abroad for more than five years after the 1-O referendum and is going through an uncertain judicial situation, already suffered from Belgium the death of his brother Pere in the summer of 2018.

In 2019, Oliveres explained on TV3's 'FAQS' program that he had been one of the people who recommended that Comín leave Catalonia to avoid imprisonment. "I didn't have to go to jail, in exile I could do a lot of work," she argued.

The former minister, son of Alfons Comín - an anti-Franco militant and leader of the PSUC - already suffered the death of his brother Pere in July 2018, who suffered from terminal cancer. He also lived it from Belgium, where he has lived since October 2017.

At this time, Comín is an MEP for Junts, and is awaiting the ruling of the General Court of the European Union on his immunity, a fact that will have repercussions on a possible extradition. Recently, the European Court of Justice opened the door to surrender, but defined the refusal options, such as the existence of "systemic deficiencies" in the State issuing the Eurowarrant or that its operation affected "the judicial protection of an objectively identifiable of persons”.
