This way you can know now if you will have to pay or return the 2023 income tax return

The tax return campaign starts this week. On Wednesday, April 3, you will be able to access the draft, submit the personal income tax return and know if it will be payable or refundable.

Of course, for the most anxious there is a trick to anticipate the official start of the campaign and know beforehand what the result of the settlement will be. To do this, we must use tax data, the information that the Tax Agency has about each taxpayer, and the Treasury's own simulators.

The first step is to obtain the tax data. The procedure can be done since last March 19. To obtain the data you can access it through the Tax Agency website or from the official app. In both cases, to identify themselves and obtain the information, the taxpayer will have to choose to do so with the Cl@ve Móvil system, Cl@ve PIN, certificate or electronic DNI or reference number, for which the declaration from last year will be needed ( box 505).

The data that the Treasury will offer will be those such as income from working as an employee, interest from bank accounts or from the rental of properties if it has been declared. It must be taken into account that there is data that the tax authorities may be missing, which may cause the declaration to change its meaning. Next to each piece of information, it is indicated which box of the declaration the concept corresponds to.

Once you have this data, it will serve as a basis to go to the Income Web Open simulator, in which you can generate a declaration from scratch and enter the tax data provided by the Tax Agency. "You will be able to make a simulation of your declaration without needing to identify yourself electronically," explains the Treasury.

In Renta Web Open you can only do simulations, not file the return. The environment is similar to what the taxpayer finds himself in when he completes the procedure officially: he will have to provide the identification data, address, and include all the calculations and figures that are of interest, from the "Declaration sections" tab. For example, income obtained at work, rent on a home, dues to a union, donations and deductions that can be taken advantage of.

As you progress in the simulator, the result will be shown in the "Summary of declarations" section: if it is positive, it will be paid, if it is negative, it will be returned (the Tax Agency will pay us this amount). The result is also seen if it is presented individually or jointly, with the spouse, which serves to take stock and see which one is more interesting.

When you click "validate", the errors to be corrected and other notices to take into account will be displayed.

With the "preview" option you will obtain a draft with all the detailed information. This cannot be presented, only consulted. The file generated in the simulation, however, can be downloaded and re-uploaded for future occasions.
