The Virgen del Pilar special education center is awarded for promoting the use of bicycles

The delegate of the Government of the Junta de Andalucía in Cádiz, Mercedes Colombo, received this Wednesday in the Cadiz capital students and teachers from the Virgen del Pilar special education center in Sanlúcar de Barrameda, winners of the Ponte en Marcha award for their initiative to promote bicycle mobility.

The students of the Virgen del Pilar special education center in Sanlúcar de Barrameda have been one of the winners in Andalusia in the sixth edition of this school competition promoted by the Ministry of Development, Territorial Articulation and Housing to instill sustainable mobility in the classrooms and the use of non-polluting means of transportation, the Board has indicated in a note.

Specifically, this Sanluque center has won in the Special Education category of the sixth edition of the Ponte en march awards with its proposal 'Move by bicycle to reach the goal', with which students and the educational community are made aware of the use of the bike.

To do this, they make known the road safety rules for cycling routes, in addition to promoting the importance of a healthy life and practicing sports. Among the activities that have been launched from this center, hiking routes and the so-called 'On the shore not a cigarette butt' stand out, as a continuation of the campaign from previous editions 'Get on Plogging', a sustainable initiative that combines recycling, sport and education environmental.

Also present at the meeting held in Cádiz were the territorial delegates of Educational Promotion and Development, Carmen Sánchez and Isabel Paredes, the managing director of the Transport Consortium of the Bay of Cádiz, Concepción Parra, and members of the educational community.

At this reception at the Andalusian Government Delegation, Mercedes Colombo congratulated student representatives, teachers and members of the educational community of this Afanas center for promoting sustainable mobility.

Colombo thanked the presence of the winners and other representatives of the educational community linked to this Sanluque center and highlighted that this award is "a well-deserved recognition" for the work carried out in this school, for the participation of everyone and for the involvement to convey to the little ones "the importance of transportation, reducing pollution and raising awareness to take care of the planet."

"The use of public transport is necessary, as well as riding a bicycle or traveling on foot, as healthy and environmentally friendly habits," mentioned the delegate, who explained that with this type of awards the aim is to "involve the educational community, children, young people, their parents and teachers to raise awareness, raise awareness and support sustainable mobility and improve the quality of life.

Behind these awards "there is an original project that shows a lot of enthusiasm, ingenuity, good work and determination to develop an initiative that raises awareness of the environment," the delegate noted.

Fifteen Andalusian educational centers have participated in this edition of the Get Started school competition and only four were winners: the CEIP Federico García Lorca (Córdoba), in the Children's category (from 3 to 6 years old); the CEIP Santa Teresa de Jesús de Fuentes de Andalucía (Seville), in Primary (from 6 to 12 years old); the IES Hipatia de Mairena del Aljarafe (Seville), in Secondary (from 12 onwards); and the Virgen del Pilar special education center in Sanlúcar de Barrameda, which repeats its victory in the Special Education category.

This school competition, promoted by the Government of Andalusia through the Ministry of Development, Territorial Articulation and Housing, is now in its sixth edition and the winning centers have received an accreditation diploma and materials for sustainable mobility (scooters or bicycles) in function of age.
