The heat wave that starts this Monday, July 10, will activate alerts in more than 30 provinces of twelve autonomous communities, highlighting the extreme risk (red) in Córdoba and Jaén, with maximums of 45ºC, according to the forecast of the State Agency of Meteorology (AEMET).
In addition to the red warning in these Andalusian provinces, high temperatures will put Cádiz, Granada, Málaga, Seville, the Balearic Islands, Ciudad Real, Cuenca, Guadalajara, Toledo, Badajoz, Cáceres, Madrid and Albacete at significant risk (orange), which will also be Yellow alert for storms.
Huesca, Teruel, Zaragoza, Ávila, Burgos, Palencia, Salamanca, Segovia, Soria, Valladolid, Zamora, Barcelona, Girona, Lleida, Murcia, Navarra, La Rioja, Alicante and Valencia will also be affected by the heat wave with a yellow warning .
Temperatures will rise across the board this Monday, notably in valleys on the Atlantic slope, while the minimum will drop in areas of the northern third of the peninsula. Except in the extreme north and in areas of the Levante, temperatures will exceed 35ºC in a large part of the Peninsula and in the Balearic Islands, reaching 40ºC in the center and interior parts of the southern half, as well as occasionally in the Ebro, and it could reach at 44/45ºC in the Guadalquivir valley.
In this context, torrid nights are expected, in which the temperature will not drop below 25ºC in areas of the Guadalquivir valley and on the coasts of Granada and Almería, as well as in parts of Mallorca (Balearic Islands).
The day will be stable in practically the entire country with slightly cloudy or clear skies and no precipitation, although intervals of low morning clouds are expected in areas of the northern half of Galicia, the Cantabrian area, the upper Ebro, the Valencian Community and the Balearic Islands, but tending to slightly cloudy or clear.
In addition, more persistent cloudy intervals are expected in the Strait and Melilla, while in inland areas of the eastern third of the peninsula cloudiness will increase in the afternoon with intervals of clouds of diurnal evolution, without ruling out dry storms, which could be accompanied by an occasional shower. in eastern Iberia. There will also be some cloudy intervals in the north of the Canary Islands at first, tending to disappear.
The day will also be marked by the probability of haze in the extreme south and southeast of the peninsula, Strait, Melilla and the Balearic Islands. These are not ruled out in the eastern Canaries in the end.
The wind, for its part, is expected to be a trade wind in the Canary Islands and weak in the rest. Likewise, it will be of an eastern component in the Cantabrian Sea, the Balearic Islands and the Mediterranean basin, somewhat more intense on the coasts of the southeast of the peninsula; of northern component in the Cantabrian slope, and of the west in the Atlantic, with regime of breezes in the coasts. Very strong gusts of convective origin are not ruled out in the east of the southern plateau, southeastern and eastern Iberian mountains.
In an update of the special warning for a heat wave, the AEMET has indicated that the temperatures will also remain very high during Tuesday, although with some changes.
Specifically, the intensification of the wind from the west and southwest will cause a rise in the eastern peninsula and the Ebro valley, where, as in Mallorca, temperatures can reach 40-43ºC, and, on the contrary, temperatures will drop in the west and north peninsular, more pronounced the further north and west. In the Guadalquivir valley, very high temperatures will continue, exceeding 42ºC
This Monday and Tuesday will be the culminating days of this episode in most of the territory, which by Wednesday the 12th will be reduced due to the probability of a refreshment in most areas, mainly in the Ebro valley and other areas of the north of the peninsula , as well as in the Balearic Islands, this being less pronounced in the southern third.
However, the AEMET has pointed out that temperatures are expected to continue to rise in the southeast, reaching 42-44ºC.
The minimum temperatures will also be very high during the episode, with tropical nights, above 20ºC, and even above 25ºC, in the southeastern half of the peninsula, especially in the southeastern third, and in the Balearic Islands.
The AEMET has warned that at this time it is not possible to establish with certainty the end of this episode of heat wave, although it has advanced that it could be on Thursday.
The most probable scenario indicates a tendency for the thermal decreases to continue as of Wednesday, although for several more days, the temperatures will be above the usual values in areas of the southern half of the peninsula and the Balearic Islands, he specified.
As for the Canary Islands, he stressed that it is likely that the Saharan air mass will also affect the archipelago this Monday and Tuesday, raising temperatures progressively, giving rise to an episode of high temperatures, although it is still early to determine whether or not it conforms. a heat wave.
