The Valencian Community closes 2023 with 13,722 fewer unemployed (-4.06%) than the previous year

The Valencian Community closed 2023 with 324,521 unemployed people, which represents 13,722 fewer and a decrease of 4.06% compared to the previous year, according to data published this Wednesday by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security.

Unemployment registered in December 2023 in the Community increased, however, compared to November, with 885 more unemployed (0.27%) than the previous month.

In December, unemployment has increased in the three provinces of the Community: by 387 people (0.25%) in Valencia, by 371 (1.05%) in Castellón and by 127 (0.10%) in Alicante.

In year-on-year terms, it has decreased in Alicante, with 7,884 (-5.61%) fewer unemployed than in 2022, and Valencia, with 6,224 fewer (-3.83%), while it has increased in the province of Castellón, with 386 more people unemployed (1.09%) than the previous year.

By gender, of the 324,521 unemployed people, a total of 196,039 are women and 128,482 are men.

Of the unemployed as a whole, 19,592 are under 25 years of age, of which 10,364 are men and 9,228 are women, while of the 304,929 of the rest of the ages, 118,118 are men and 186,811 are women.

By sectors of activity, the Valencian Community has 227,469 unemployed in the services sector, 40,438 in industry, 25,485 in construction and 8,894 in agriculture, and 22,235 of them do not have previous employment.

The total number of unemployed foreigners in the provinces of Valencia, Alicante and Castellón amounts to 56,466, of which 21,536 are from the community and 34,930 from outside the community, and the majority are concentrated in the services sector (35,983) and construction (5,251).

In December, unemployment in this group has increased by 393 people (0.70%) but has decreased compared to the previous year by 1,257 people (-2.18%).

Regarding contracts, in December 93,591 were formalized (40,313 permanent and 53,278 temporary), 24.46% less (-30,298) than the previous month, and in the whole of the year 11,325 fewer contracts were made than in 2022, a decrease of 10.79%.

The total number of contracts in the Community is 1,383,720 million, of which 49.99% (691,682) are indefinite and 50.01% (692,038) are temporary.

In Spain as a whole, 2023 closes with a total of 2,707,456 unemployed, which translates into 130,197 fewer unemployed people (a drop of 4.59%) than in 2022 and the lowest figure for this month since 2007. before the outbreak of the financial crisis.

Likewise, December has registered a national decrease in unemployment of 1.00% (27,375 fewer people) compared to the previous month.

By autonomous community, this month unemployment has decreased by 14, it has increased in Catalonia, with 3,474 more unemployed, Comunitat Valenciana, with 885, and La Rioja, with 160.
