Radiant sunrise on Gavà beach, in Baix Llobregat. Admiration for the king star at the moment of his departure. We see in this image in La Vanguardia Readers' Photos how the person who is admiring the scene is positioned just below the projection of the sun's rays, as if illuminated by a lamp.

It occurs as a vertical pillar of light, an atmospheric optical phenomenon in which a vertical beam of light appears to extend above and/or below a light source.

The effect is created by the reflection of light from small ice crystals that are suspended in the atmosphere or that comprise high-altitude clouds (for example, cirrostratus or cirrus clouds).

If the light comes from the sun (usually when it is near or even below the horizon), the phenomenon is called a solar pillar, as in this case in Gavà.

The orange color of the sky is due to the candlelight. As part of the phenomenon of dispersion of sunlight, in the morning and afternoon hours, when the sun is closer to the horizon, the light that reaches the Earth is soft tones between red and orange.
