The public ridicule of Liz Truss: a lettuce lasts longer than the prime minister

The United Kingdom does not give for shocks. The last one, this Thursday, has had Liz Truss as its protagonist. A few minutes after 1:30 p.m. in London, the still British Prime Minister announced that she was resigning "unable to fulfill" her mandate.

The conservative has resigned after remaining only 45 days in office. Her time at 10 Downing Street has been brief, but intense. Truss has lived through very convulsive days: the death of Elizabeth II, a failed economic plan and the resignations of several ministers of her government, before hers. And all in a month and a half. What she surely did not expect was that the end of her career was going to be linked, with all the sarcasm, to a piece of lettuce.

Truss's resignation has come as no surprise. Despite the fact that this very Wednesday she assured that she would not resign, her mistakes and the pressure of her own party have condemned her. The British tabloids, with her singular sarcastic touch, have put their boots on the debacle of the 'Torie' leader. And the one that has taken the cake has been the Daily Star, which devised a hurtful campaign that went viral and that had a lettuce as the protagonist.

On October 14, the Daily Star triumphed on social networks by launching a campaign that asked who would last longer: a lettuce -which only has "10 days to live"- or Liz Truss as British Prime Minister. He uploaded a live video on his YouTube channel, which is still broadcast, showing a table with a portrait of the politician and lettuce, which was incorporating accessories. And finally, the vegetable has won the duel.

After the resignation of Liz Truss was announced, the Daily Star was quick to react and in the same live video you can see how the politician's portrait is upside down while the lettuce -with two UK flags, a wig, a crown and three bottles of alcoholic beverages - celebrates his victory. And everything, to the sound of Celebration de Kool

As expected, thousands of Internet users have connected live to see the victory of lettuce over the British Prime Minister, and the Daily Star has also announced, continuing with its humor and to underline the triumph of the vegetable, that lettuce "He will offer a speech to the nation at 6:00 p.m." after making his success official.

The Daily Star video was far from the only 'meme' or post on social media taking Liz Truss's resignation with humor. Some of the most prominent tweets have been those of the airline Ryanair, a regular in these cases.

It was already the subject of debate when, after Barcelona's defeat against Real Madrid last Sunday, Ryanair published a tweet dedicated to Lewandowski explaining that it operates flights to Munich, in case the Polish striker considered returning to his old team. And with Liz Truss something similar has happened.

After announcing the resignation of the conservative, Ryanair has ironically published on Twitter, the photograph of a supposed Liz Truss ticket, leaving London-Gatwick Airport with a destination "anywhere". And minutes later, the same airline has published a new photograph, in this case of Truss herself in a plane cabin, with the message "What's next for Liz? Mick Lynch could say something good."

A new day of crisis in the United Kingdom that, at least, both the British and other Internet users around the world take with humor.
