The PSOE asks the PP to stop giving "lessons" after revealing its meeting with Junts in August

The PSOE has criticized the PP's double standards, demanding more "transparency" and fewer "lessons" after La Vanguardia revealed the meeting held by the Popular Party with Junts last August to seek an understanding before starting the round of negotiations for the investiture. failed by Alberto Núñez Feijóo. A meeting that, according to sources from Carles Puigdemont's party, was held at the proposal of the Popular Party before the negotiation for the constitution of the Congress Board.

"The Socialists have held meetings with Junts and we have reached agreements. We have always conducted these meetings with discretion, but public opinion was aware of them," he said after learning the coordinates of a bilateral meeting attended by the president of the group. of Junts in the Parliament of Catalonia, Albert Batet, and the spokesperson of that party and councilor in Barcelona, Josep Rius - one of the few people who are completely trusted by Carles Puigdemont -, along with the councilor of that city council, Daniel Sirera, of the PP, and the political communication expert Xavier Domínguez, who piloted part of Alberto Núñez Feijóo's electoral campaign on July 23.

"Now we find out from a media outlet that the PP held meetings with Junts in the month of August, even before beginning the negotiation for the Congress Board and a few days after the elections," socialist sources reproach before asking for "greater transparency." "demanding that the popular party "tell citizens how many more meetings they have had with Junts and what topics they talked about."

"Mr. Feijóo," the same sources insist, "must, at least to his voters, a clear explanation. He cannot spend his life insulting and accusing everyone, while he approves meetings with Junts that we are finding out about." by the press. Let him say it clearly: Junts, the party led by Carles Puigdemont, is a valid interlocutor for the PP. And let him explain it to Aznar, Ayuso and Cayetana Alvarez de Toledo... Less lessons, and more applying to oneself what one preaches", they conclude from Ferraz.

Daniel Sirera has admitted that the meeting was held. In statements to Rac1, the leader of the PP in Barcelona City Council explained that it was a "cordial" meeting in which Junts proposed amnesty and a self-determination referendum. Two aspects that made any type of pact "unviable."

According to the popular councilor, Feijóo was not aware of this meeting, which JxCat requested as it considered the PP a "more trustworthy" party than the PSOE.

"The people of Junts are aware that Pedro Sánchez is a compulsive liar and is not trustworthy," said Sirera, who added that if the PP had accepted what Junts was asking for, "Feijóo could have been president", although he has stressed that the PP is not "for a chair but to improve the lives of Catalans."

Although Sirera has confirmed the meeting, the PP spokesperson in Congress, Miguel Tellado, has “denied” any contact with Junts to explore a possible agreement for Feijóo's investiture in an interview on Antena 3, this Wednesday. The spokesperson has stated that he "is unaware" of the information but has insisted that his party would not be willing "to agree on the investiture in exchange for an amnesty."

Sources from Junts, on the other hand, certify that the "informal" meeting was not only held but, they insist, took place "at the request of the PP to probe the intentions regarding the policy of pacts.

The meeting made it clear, according to the aforementioned sources, that "Junts per Catalunya would not be part of any pact in which the extreme right was included."

In this sense, they insist on staying away from any "Spanish political bloc", and extend their "distrust when negotiating both towards the PP and the PSOE" as explained by the figure of an international verifier to guarantee compliance with the pacts. .
