The PP reminds Sánchez that in 2014 he set conditions for the recognition of Palestine

This Monday the PP showed its concern that Sumar's position, "which is not even capable of recognizing Hamas as a terrorist organization", as the countries around us do, is influencing the position that the Government adopts in the conflict. Palestinian-Israel. Yolanda Díaz's party demanded that Sánchez, this Monday, recognize the Palestinian state, to support Sánchez's investiture.

When shortly afterwards the acting president of the Government agreed with the recognition of Palestine as a state, the PP spokesperson, Borja Semper, tried to reassure the PSOE, which is not worried, because he is convinced that Sumar will not make his investiture of that, "as he did not withdraw support when he changed his position on the Sahara."

But the PP made use of memory, to remind the PSOE what its traditional position has been on the Palestinian-Israel conflict, and found it in a non-law proposal approved in 2014 by practically the entire Congress of Deputies, where only There were two or three dissenting votes, in which PSOE, PP and the main Spanish parties set "conditions for the recognition of the Palestinian state", and which were, mainly that "recognition was linked to a negotiation process between the parties, which guarantee the peace and security of both."

The bill to which Semper alluded also stood out, that Spain's action for the recognition of the Palestinian state must be "coordinated with the European Union" and must recognize Israel's legitimized aspirations for peace and security.

With these approaches adopted in Congress, the PP considers that the Government of Pedro Sánchez is allowing itself to be influenced by Sumar, and that this means that "Spain is not a reliable country" for the rest of the European and North American partners, hence, in the opinion of the popular ones, that in the bilateral conversations between countries, where France or Germany are playing an important role, the voice of Spain is not taken into account, at a time when it should be, given that Spain holds the rotating presidency of the Union European Union, and yet he is only invited to speak about the conflict at formal meetings, such as the one scheduled for Tuesday.

The PP wanted to make its position clear, aligning itself with that proclaimed by the Commission, "in the advanced line" of the joint declaration, which condemns the Hamas attack, and recognizes Israel's right to defend, but always "within the framework of the international law, and as long as the civilian population is protected".

Borja Semper, in the press conference after the meeting of the steering committee, asked the PSOE to "go together, united in the defense of international legality and in the fight against terrorism", as has always happened in Spain, which has also served him to act as a mediator between the parties, since both have until now recognized his position, and that has helped him to even organize peace conferences.

For the PP, "there has been a violation of human rights in both directions", which is what Spain's European and North American partners are saying, and which is where Spain should be. The PP, he stressed, is there, with "the International Community and the European Union, with the preservation of the civilian population, which should not pay for what Hamas has done." A position, Semper insisted, that "is with international legality and the right to exist of the two states."
