The police confirmed the abandonment of the elderly from the covid residences in Madrid

The Government of Isabel Díaz Ayuso has always wanted to cover up what happened during the Covid pandemic in nursing homes, in which 7,297 people died. The justification for it has always been that everything humanly possible was done in an exceptional moment, but the reality is that thousands and thousands of elderly people died without health care because they were not transferred to hospitals by a protocol signed by the Community of Madrid. But the family members' fight has not stopped in these years, and they continue seeking justice.

And, in search of that responsibility, these families have not stopped requesting the reports that the Madrid Municipal Police carried out during those months and that the Community has systematically refused to make public. In fact, he went to court to prevent them from coming to light as required by the Transparency Council after agreeing with a citizen who had formally requested them. The Ser chain has accessed about 200 in which the problems that many residences had are confirmed, not only to be able to isolate and care for those infected, even so that the funeral services could take care of the elderly who died.

For example, on April 5, 2020, the Madrid Municipal Police went to the Ballesol residence, where its director told the agents that she urgently needed to take three elderly people who had died days before and who were still in center.

On April 6, at the Amavir Puente de Vallecas residence, the agents gave a similar story. In those first days of April, the agents once again found that from the Orpea Madrid Valdemarín residence they were asking for shrouds and "help to remove the deceased in the shortest possible time"...

A report published by Más Madrid states, referring to the Mirasierra residence: “(...) of the 69 deceased, nine died in the hospital, and the rest (60) died in the residence caused by the non-admission of referrals from said patients. patients at the referral hospital.

The testimonies collected by the police and made public by Ser confirm the abandonment that some centers suffered. For example, the agents visit the Rafael Alberti residence, in Moncloa, on April 4, where those responsible “urgently” request protective equipment. And they say: “Neither the UME nor the Community has appeared. Nobody".

These are not isolated cases, a good part of the records reflect the lack of protective equipment and masks. At the Sacred Heart residence, on March 31, they report that “a lot of protective equipment is missing” and that they have not been provided with tests, “so no test has been performed.” On April 6, at the Nuestra Señora de Montserrat residence they were still using “garbage bags” to protect themselves and asked to be “helped” with more personnel.

But it wasn't just a matter of lack of material. Many residences reveal the loneliness they felt. At the Santísima Virgen y San Celedonio residence, on April 3 (34 deaths), they claim to have requested help from the different authorities "without receiving any response," says the police report.

They were more forceful in Las Fuentes. On April 11, their managers confirmed that they requested disinfection, rapid tests and a doctor from the Community of Madrid. They had no response.

The publication of these minutes has provoked indignation from the opposition, which demands the publication of all police reports. The PP, for its part, reproaches the left for “throwing the dead” from the residences “in their faces” (expression of the mayor, José Luis Martínez-Almeida).
